On the evening of September 16, Mr. Hoang Van Hai - Deputy Head of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board of Tuyen Quang province confirmed: The tunnel collapse occurred at the construction site of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway, through Yen Son district, Tuyen Quang province.
"I am at the scene," Mr. Hai said, adding that he would provide details later.
General Van Bich, Party cell secretary of Khe Dang village, Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district) confirmed that the above incident happened in the area at around 7:00 p.m. tonight. Mr. Bich also confirmed that there were people injured in the accident.
A representative of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said that the incident occurred in Tuyen Quang province. “This is a bid package invested by the People’s Committee of Tuyen Quang province. Currently, the MOT is requesting a report from the locality,” said a representative of the MOT.
The Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway project has a total length of nearly 105km, two lanes, total investment of about 10,000 billion VND, expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The project has been added by the Prime Minister to the list of important national works and projects, key to the transport sector.
The section passing through Tuyen Quang province alone is 77km long, with an investment of about 6,800 billion VND. Of which, the central budget capital is nearly 4,500 billion VND, and the local budget capital is more than 2,300 billion VND.
In phase 1, the project has a design scale of 2 motor vehicle lanes, asphalt concrete road surface structure. On the route, 7 interchanges and 3 level intersections are designed; 22 bridges are built, of which 16 are on the highway, 5 bridges are on interchange branches over the highway and 1 overpass is on the level crossing over the highway, along with 91 underpasses on the main route. The section passing through Tuyen Quang province is divided into 6 construction packages (from package XL19 to XL24).
