Due to prolonged rain, the price of durian in bulk in some localities in the Central Highlands is falling sharply and is now only half of the price at the end of last month at 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg.

This is the lowest price since Vietnam officially signed the durian export protocol with the Chinese market. According to businesses, as soon as the rain stops and the sun shines, the durian harvest will resume and the price can recover soon.

Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), said that the special feature of durian is that it must be harvested in sunny weather and at least one week after the last rain to achieve good quality.

Since the beginning of September, due to the impact of storms and rains, durian prices have dropped sharply, commonly to 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg. However, in sunny areas, prices remain high at 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg and supply is scarce. The disadvantage of the Central Highlands is that the harvest falls at the peak of the rainy season, especially in the current period, which has greatly affected quality and price.
