The announcement from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) came late on August 12. Accordingly, they said that an athlete in the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team was not qualified to compete.

The specific announcement is as follows: "In response to concerns that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation used ineligible athletes in their U21 squad to participate in the 2025 Women's U21 Volleyball World Cup in Indonesia, the FIVB has opened an investigation in accordance with regulations.

The investigation concluded that the athlete in question is ineligible under Article 12.2 of the FIVB Disciplinary Regulations 2023.

Therefore, according to Article 13.5.2 of the Event Regulations and Article 14.4 of the Disciplinary Regulations, the Disciplinary Subcommittee of the International Volleyball Federation decided that the matches of the Vietnam U21 team with the above-mentioned athlete participating will be canceled, and the athlete will also be immediately disqualified.

Pursuant to Article 14.4 of the Disciplinary Regulations and taking into account the circumstances of the case, the FIVB Disciplinary Sub-Committee will refer the file to the FIVB Disciplinary Council for further assessment of possible sanctions outside the Competition. At that time, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the athlete will be invited to provide their views in writing.

At this time, the FIVB will not make any further comments."

This was a real shock to the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team. Before the penalty, they had just finished the group stage in second place in Group A with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

That result was enough to help coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team advance to the round of 16 and face Türkiye on August 13.

FIVB did not release any information about the players who violated the rules. Therefore, it is not clear which matches of Vietnam U21 team were canceled. Along with that, their remaining rankings cannot be determined.
