On October 6, at the opening ceremony of the 51st regular university course of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) - Vinh Long Branch, new student Le Phuc Hau and other students were awarded scholarships worth 10 million VND/scholarship by the school.

Phuc Hau is the character that has just been released. Tuoi Tre newspaper introduced in a series of articles about the 2025 School Support scholarship through the article "Left behind by parents, male student worked extra from 3am and passed the entrance exam to Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics".

Hau was raised by his grandmother since he was just over 3 months old. When his parents divorced and had a new family, Hau and his brother stayed with their grandparents. His grandfather was sick, so his grandmother worked hard weaving water hyacinth, earning 220,000 VND per week to support him in his studies.

Since the end of junior high school, Phuc Hau has been working part-time, from coffee shops to wedding receptions, and then sorting goods for a shipping company from 3am. Growing up in poverty and hardship, Hau was still an active class monitor throughout his three years of high school, and was admitted to the marketing major of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) - Vinh Long branch by considering his transcripts, with a converted score of 22.92 points.

New student Le Phuc Hau (from My Tan hamlet, Cai Ngang commune, Vinh Long province) wrote tearful lines in his application to the School Support program. For many years, Hau grew up weaving water hyacinths by hand, growing rice, and picking lemons for his elderly grandparents. His income was not enough, so when he grew up, Hau knew how to balance his studies and part-time jobs.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Lieu - Permanent Deputy Director of the branch - said that Phuc Hau is one of the new students with difficulties selected by the school and awarded a scholarship.

"The scholarship policy, encouragement and facilitation for students to firmly step on the path of conquering knowledge is an annual traditional activity at the school. In particular, the awarding of scholarships to newly admitted students with difficult circumstances.

In the case of Le Phuc Hau, we also learned about his situation and determination through an article in Tuoi Tre newspaper. At the same time, when entering school, Hau submitted an application to confirm his situation, so we decided to award a scholarship worth 10 million VND to support his studies, hoping that Hau will be confident and overcome difficulties to study at school," said Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Lieu.

At the ceremony, Phuc Hau represented the new students to speak. Hau was both happy and nervous because after 12 years of hard work, he had now achieved his dream of studying at UEH Mekong.

"I grew up in a small family in Cai Ngang commune, Vinh Long province. I grew up thanks to the protection of my grandparents. During difficult times, I chose to look forward, not letting circumstances bring me down, determined to change my life through education.

I believe that UEH Mekong is the right place to continue my dream. Especially, with the support from the school today, I will be determined to study to become a global citizen in the future with the heart of a Westerner rich in knowledge, responsibility and warm humanity to contribute to society," Phuc Hau shared.

Tuoi Tre Newspaper awarded the "Tiep suc den truong" scholarship to Le Phuc Hau, readers donated more than 20 million VND
