Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group - a multinational corporation specializing in technology and the Internet, Mr. Masayoshi Son announced that the company is developing the world's first AI agent system capable of performing complex tasks on its own.

Speaking at an event in Japan's capital Tokyo on July 16, Mr. Masayoshi Son said: "AI agents will think and improve themselves... So the era of humans doing programming work is coming to an end."

According to the CEO, the new system will be deployed first at SoftBank Group with 100 million customers and 50,000 employees. AI agents can operate 24/7 to strategize, program and negotiate on behalf of humans.

Unlike generative AI, which requires human commands to perform tasks, agent AI is capable of proactively performing tasks by designing its own workflow based on available data. This technology is expected to improve business performance through supporting decision-making and problem-solving.

SoftBank Group announced the project after forming a joint venture with technology firm OpenAI - the developer of chatbot ChatGPT - to promote AI services for corporations.

Attending the event in Tokyo virtually, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also emphasized the importance of agent AI, calling it a "significant step forward."

“In the first era of AI, the ChatGPT era, humans could ask anything and AI would answer you. Now, with the advent of agent AI, humans can ask computers to do something using natural language. Complex tasks are vaguely defined but agent AI can still understand and perform,” he said.

According to this CEO, AI agents will open up huge technological potential and productivity./.
