15,000 VND boarding meal at mountain school receives "shower of compliments"

(Dan Tri) - The image of elementary school students in mountainous areas having lunch in a spacious, air-conditioned room attracts attention. In particular, the price for each meal is only 15,000 VND, not including service charges, which surprised many people.

In recent days, social networks have been spreading many images and clips about the boarding meals of Vu Quang Primary School, Vu Quang Commune, Ha Tinh Province.

According to the poster, hundreds of students ate in a spacious, clean room with air conditioning and fans. Tables were neatly laid out, each student had their own stainless steel tray. The menu changed daily with a variety of dishes.

It is known that each meal costs 15,000 VND (not including cooking and serving costs). The school publicly lists the price and invites parents to directly supervise.

Under each post, many parents and social network users mostly expressed satisfaction.

NTT account commented: "The meal is of such good quality! Suitable for the budget, the child is independent and well-disciplined. I hope all schools have meals like this."

"This is great. I hope every elementary school can do this so that children have the health to study in the afternoon," shared account H.D.T.

A parent shared: "My child studies here, a meal costs 15,000 VND plus 8,000 VND for care. Every day my child says it's delicious and eats it all. The teachers also teach us not to waste food, so I feel very secure."

On September 12, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Dinh Thi Hong Linh, Principal of Vu Quang Primary School, said that the school has organized meals for boarding students for more than 10 years.

According to Ms. Linh, in the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 447 students, of which 442 are boarding students, only 25 students do not register because their houses are nearby and they have their own reasons. Boarding meals are strictly managed, all stages from receiving food, processing to the cafeteria are monitored by cameras, and images are saved.

Parents can come in to check in person if needed, just report to the security guard at the school gate and they will be invited in.

"Each meal, the food alone, costs 15,000 VND, and the wages for the cooks, servers, and midday care workers add 8,000 VND. To provide the lunch, the school used to have 5 catering staff, but now one of them has resigned. However, the remaining staff are still guaranteed jobs. They all have training certificates," Ms. Linh informed.

The school principal also said that through monitoring on social networks, in addition to compliments, some opinions said that the school staged and took photos.

In response to this opinion, Ms. Linh said the image was posted on social media by a parent.

"We make public the prices, menus, and food sources. The school signs contracts with food suppliers such as meat, chicken, and fish and only brings in fresh food. We do not use processed food, but only buy live chicken to butcher, fresh fish to process, and grind the meat to make sausages ourselves," Ms. Linh affirmed.

The female principal emphasized: "I once told the school's parents that if anyone discovered the school had skimmed even one penny, the principal would resign."

Ms. Linh added that the school provides boarding meals from Monday to Thursday and only serves lunch. After eating, the children rest at school, where teachers take turns managing and taking care of them.
