According to Neowin , this February, Helldivers 2 is becoming a 'phenomenon' in the gaming world. The sci-fi third-person shooter game by developer Arrowhead and publisher PlayStation Studios is increasingly 'hot' on both PC and PlayStation 5, attracting more and more players to participate.
Helldivers 2 creates a storm with a huge number of players
On Steam, Helldivers 2 hit a record high of 333,827 concurrent players on February 17. It remains the best-selling game on Steam at $39.99, with the $59.99 premium version of Super Citizen coming in third.
Along with the massive player count, Helldivers 2 is facing server overload, suggesting that Arrowhead may not have anticipated the game's popularity. The developer announced on the game's official Discord channel that the surge in online players has caused 'some mission rewards to be corrupted, some players to be kicked off the ship or logged out'.
While the development team says they're working on fixing these issues, they also admit that they're "having difficulty" scaling the servers to handle the massive player count. "We've had to limit the number of concurrent players to around 450,000 to improve server stability," the team said. "We'll continue to work with our partners to raise this limit. If you're experiencing issues with your progress, please restart the game to get things back in sync. Thank you for your patience."
