Drivers will not be allowed to drive more than 48 hours a week, from January 1, 2025

According to Article 64 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, a car driver's driving time shall not exceed 10 hours a day and no more than 48 hours a week. In particular, continuous driving shall not exceed 4 hours. This regulation is to ensure that drivers have enough rest time to recover their health and concentrate when participating in traffic, avoiding prolonged fatigue, which can cause traffic accidents.

Compared to the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the 2024 Traffic Safety Law maintains the regulations on driving time but adds more specific regulations on drivers' working time. This helps protect workers from overwork and at the same time increases the responsibility of transport units in complying with legal regulations.

Transport businesses and drivers are responsible for strictly complying with these regulations. Violations can result in severe penalties, ranging from administrative fines to revocation of business licenses.

In addition to the regulations on working hours, the Traffic Safety Law 2024 also has notable changes on driving age, especially for drivers of large passenger vehicles. The maximum age for drivers of vehicles with more than 29 seats, including buses and sleeper buses, has been raised.

Specifically, male drivers are allowed to drive until the age of 57, while female drivers are allowed to drive until the age of 55, an increase of 2 years for men and 5 years for women compared to previous regulations.

The increase in the maximum age is intended to allow older drivers to continue working if they meet health requirements. This also reflects flexibility in the use of human resources, while ensuring safety when participating in traffic.

Changes in the 2024 Traffic Safety Law demonstrate the state's concern for labor safety in the road transport sector. Regulations on driving time not only help protect drivers' health but also contribute to reducing the risks of traffic accidents due to fatigue and lack of concentration.
