At the invitation of First Vice President of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis, from September 30 to October 3, Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly paid an official visit to Greece.
According to a VNA reporter accompanying the delegation, during the visit, National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai held talks with First Vice Chairman of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis; met with Greek Vice President Konstantinos Chatzidakis; met and worked with General Secretary of the Greek Communist Party Dimitrios Koutsoumpas; met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Greece.
At the meeting with First Vice President of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis at the Greek Parliament Headquarters on September 30, Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai thanked the Greek Parliament for its warm and friendly welcome to the Vietnamese delegation; emphasized that the visit was also an opportunity for Vietnam to express its respect and remembrance of Greece's valuable support and assistance to Vietnam during the past years of struggle for independence and freedom, including heroes such as Mr. Kostas Sarantidis-Nguyen Van Lap; and thanked Greece for providing 250,000 doses of vaccine to help Vietnam prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Greece; emphasizing the strong determination of the Vietnamese State and National Assembly to further deepen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in particular and the friendly relations between Vietnam and Greece in general.
The First Vice President of the Greek National Assembly congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the 80th National Day Celebration; highly appreciated the significance of the visit of Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai as the first exchange of delegations at the level of the National Assembly leaders between the two countries in over 10 years, taking place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1975-2025); expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong socio-economic development in recent years; emphasized that Vietnam is Greece's leading important partner in Southeast Asia and affirmed the desire to comprehensively promote cooperation between the two countries on both parliamentary and governmental channels.
The First Vice President of the Greek Parliament said that bilateral relations still have a lot of room for development, especially after the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) was signed, and the two countries share similarities in respect for international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982); hoping that Greek businesses will have the opportunity to access the Vietnamese market in agriculture, maritime transport and energy industry.
The First Vice President of the Greek National Assembly welcomed the Vietnamese National Assembly for establishing the Vietnam-Greece Friendship Parliamentarians Group and believed that this would be a bridge contributing to further deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries and the two National Assemblies in the coming time; thanked Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai for the invitation and affirmed his wish to visit Vietnam soon in the coming time.
On October 1, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai met with Vice President of Greece Kostantinos Chatzidakis.
At the meeting, the Greek Vice President warmly welcomed Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly on their official visit to Greece; highly appreciated the significance of the Vice Chairman's visit; affirmed that the Greek State always supports and attaches importance to promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields; expressed his belief that the Vice Chairman's visit will contribute to further promoting cooperation between the two countries on both bilateral and multilateral levels, based on the potential, space and strengths of both sides.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai expressed his joy at witnessing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Greece being constantly consolidated and developed in many fields. He also thanked the Greek government for supporting the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece in organizing many events to promote culture and connect the people of the two countries. He asked Greece to speak out to urge the Parliaments of the remaining eight European Union (EU) countries to soon complete the ratification of the Investment Protection Agreement between the European Union and Vietnam (EVIPA) to facilitate Greek businesses that are investing and will invest in Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to continue promoting delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially high-level ones; closely cooperate and support each other at multilateral and international forums, especially at the United Nations, the ASEAN-EU cooperation framework, etc.; strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, local connectivity, tourism, heritage conservation, promote the organization of art exchange activities in each country; coordinate in organizing meaningful activities on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On this occasion, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly invited senior Greek leaders to attend the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi from October 25-26.
The Greek Vice President expressed his confidence that the signing ceremony would be a great success and affirmed the importance of this event in contributing to common efforts to address cybercrime issues.
Agreeing with the proposals of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, the Vice President of Greece affirmed the important role of Vietnam in the Southeast Asian region; supported the bridging role of each country and promoted cooperation between Vietnam and the EU and EU member countries, as well as between Greece and ASEAN and ASEAN member countries; emphasized that the implementation of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the ratification of the EVIPA Agreement bring benefits to both countries, therefore, Greece is one of the first countries to ratify the EVIPA Agreement and always supports and hopes that the EVIPA Agreement will be implemented soon; affirmed that Greece always closely monitors and welcomes Vietnam's commitments in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; emphasized that the two countries still have a lot of room for cooperation, especially in the fields of infrastructure construction, clean energy development, maritime transport, etc.; said Greece encourages the export of high-quality Greek agricultural products to Vietnam such as honey, meat, kiwi fruit...
On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai invited Vice President Kostantinos Chatzidakis to pay an official visit to Vietnam and the Greek Vice President happily accepted the invitation.
On October 2, at the Headquarters of the Communist Party of Greece, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai met and worked with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece Dimitrios Koutsoumpas.
At the meeting, the Vice President of the National Assembly affirmed that the Vietnamese people always appreciate and remember the valuable support that the people and the Communist Party of Greece have given to Vietnam; expressed his belief that with a tradition of more than 100 years of steadfast and indomitable struggle, the Communist Party of Greece will continue to enhance its position and role in Greek politics; emphasized his hope that the 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of Greece will be a great success, setting out the Party's line of action for the benefit of Greek workers in particular and the Greek people in general.
The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece expressed his sympathy for the loss of life and property of the Vietnamese people caused by storm Bualoi (Vietnam calls storm No. 11); affirmed that the Communist Party of Greece always stands united and side by side with the Vietnamese people; highly appreciated the brotherly, united and friendly relationship between the Communist Party of Greece and the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as between the people of the two countries, which has been nurtured and preserved over the past time, through the two parties maintaining meetings, contacts, exchanging letters and telegrams on each other's important events; acknowledged the proposals of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and affirmed that he would contribute his efforts, especially in promoting the exchange of delegations, meetings, information and experience exchange, and mutual support at multilateral political party mechanisms; thanked the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly for his invitation and expressed his wish to visit Vietnam again soon.

On October 3, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation visited the headquarters, worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the host country.
Recognizing the spirit of solidarity, attachment and practical contributions of the Vietnamese community in Greece in preserving the national cultural identity and looking towards the homeland and country, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai emphasized that Hero of the People's Armed Forces Kostas Sarantidis-Nguyen Van Lap is a typical example of solidarity connecting the two peoples of Vietnam and Greece.
Hero Nguyen Van Lap's daughter, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, also attended the meeting and spoke to share her thoughts and feelings of attachment to her homeland, Vietnam.
Also within the framework of the visit, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly had working sessions with President of the Greek Court of Audit Sotiria Ntouni, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Piraeus Gavriil Petridis; met with the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group chaired by Vice Chairman of the Greek Parliament Georgios Georgantas, a member of the Group and Vice Chairman of the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group Theodoros Karaoglou; visited the Greek Parliament Building and listened to an introduction to the development history and operation methods of the Greek Parliament; visited a number of world cultural heritages recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and listened to an introduction to the history of formation and discussed ways to preserve cultural heritages./.
