Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece

On October 2, local time, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly met with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece; worked with the Greek Court of Audit; visited the Company and the Office of the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam at Piraeus port; and had a working dinner with the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group.

At the meeting with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai was pleased to see that the Vietnam-Greece relationship is developing well, demonstrated by the increasingly enhanced political trust through the maintenance of delegation exchanges at all levels and through all channels.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly affirmed that the Vietnamese people always appreciate and remember the valuable support of the people and the Communist Party of Greece for Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and in the country's construction and development today.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized the consistent stance of continuously consolidating and further strengthening the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Greece and the people of the two countries in the spirit of trust and mutual support, in accordance with the capabilities and strengths of each party and each country.

The Vice President of the National Assembly expressed his belief that with a tradition of more than 100 years of steadfast and indomitable struggle, the Communist Party of Greece will continue to enhance its position and role in Greek politics; the 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of Greece will be a great success, setting out the Party's line of action for the benefit of Greek workers in particular and the Greek people in general.

With the desire to further tighten and promote the traditional relationship between the two parties and countries in the coming time, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly proposed to continue to maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels; exchange information, experiences, letters and telegrams on important events, and cooperate in researching and learning about communist and workers' parties, as well as the communist and workers' movements in Europe and around the world.

The Vice President of the National Assembly hopes that the Greek Communist Party will urge Greece to speak up with the remaining EU member states to soon complete the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and urge the European Commission to soon remove the IUU "Yellow Card" for Vietnamese seafood exports, contributing to creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fishermen, most of whom are in difficult circumstances; support the two countries to expand cooperation in areas of mutual strength and need such as culture, heritage conservation, tourism, education, etc.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece Dmitris Koutsoumpas warmly welcomed Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly; and expressed his condolences on the losses and damages caused to Vietnam by the recent storm Bualoi.

General Secretary Dmitris Koutsoumpas said that the Greek Communist Party was founded in 1918. After 107 years of operation, it has made important contributions to the Greek people's struggle against foreign occupation. The Greek Communist Party has increasingly attracted more people to participate and has a strong influence on Greek workers and laborers. The members of the Greek Communist Party hold 7.7% of the seats in the Greek Parliament with 21 deputies and 2.1% in the European Parliament with 2 deputies.

The Communist Party of Greece and the Communist Party of Vietnam have a close and sincere brotherly relationship, always standing side by side with the Vietnamese people in the struggle against French colonialism, American imperialism and after Vietnam was completely reunified. General Secretary Dmitris Koutsoumpas visited Vietnam in 2016 and welcomed many delegations of Vietnamese Party and State leaders to visit and work with the Communist Party of Greece.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece highly appreciated the solidarity and friendship between the Communist Party of Greece and the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as between the two peoples, which have been constantly nurtured and preserved over the past time, through the two parties maintaining meetings, contacts, and exchanging letters and telegrams on each other's important events.

The General Secretary of the Greek Communist Party agreed with the proposals of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, especially the continued exchange of delegations, meetings, information and experience exchange, and mutual support at multilateral political party mechanisms; affirmed support for the Greek Government to speak out with the remaining EU member countries to soon complete the ratification of EVIPA and urge the EC to soon remove the "IUU Yellow Card" for Vietnamese seafood exports.

+ Visiting and working with the Greek Court of Audit, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai thanked the President of the Greek Court of Audit Sotiria Ntouni and his colleagues for the warm welcome given to the delegation.

The Vice President of the National Assembly congratulated the Greek Court of Auditors on its important achievements in recent times; he believed that in the near future, the two sides would have effective cooperation activities, exchanging and sharing experiences in areas that are each other's strengths and common interests such as public procurement audit, information technology audit, performance audit, application of technology in auditing activities, auditing for sustainable development, etc.

At the meeting, Deputy State Auditor General Doan Anh Tho hoped that the State Audit of Vietnam and the Greek Court of Audit would promote cooperation through the exchange of high-level delegations and technical experts; organize joint workshops on areas of strength; share professional documents; and support each other in international forums such as INTOSAI, ASOSAI, and EUROSAI.

President of the Greek Court of Audit Sotiria Ntouni was pleased to welcome Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly to visit and work; saying that this was the first time a high-ranking leader of the Vietnamese National Assembly had visited and worked at the Greek Court of Audit.

Ms. Sotiria Ntouni introduced to the Vice President of the National Assembly and the Delegation the legal, auditing and advisory powers of the Court of Accounts as stipulated in the Greek Constitution, and discussed the transparency of the audit results of the Greek Court of Accounts. Accordingly, the Court of Accounts audits the expenditures and accounts of the State, local authorities and legal entities in accordance with the law. At the same time, it can audit private organizations if they receive money from the public budget.

The President of the Greek Court of Audit expressed his agreement with the proposals of the Deputy General Auditor of Vietnam and said that he had received Vietnamese delegations three times, of which two times the State Audit of Vietnam was present, which is a strong demonstration of the close cooperation between the two countries in general and the two auditing agencies in particular.

+ Visiting the Company and the Office of the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Piraeus city, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Honorary Consul in supporting the work of the Embassy of Vietnam in Greece, as well as supporting the Vietnamese community in Greece, helping Vietnamese sailors working on foreign ships at Greek seaports; promoting cooperation between the two countries in the maritime sector through a joint venture between the Honorary Consul's Aries Cooperation Company and the Vietnam National Shipping Lines. The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly welcomed the Honorary Consul for establishing the Hon Viet Gallery, contributing to promoting Vietnamese products in the locality.

The Honorary Consul of Vietnam pledges to promote trade, investment, cultural, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, promote cooperation between localities of the two countries; actively support the Embassy in major foreign affairs activities, as well as in citizen protection work, and support the Vietnamese community to successfully integrate into the host country.

+ At the working dinner chaired by Vice President of the Greek Parliament Georgios Georgantas and Vice President of the Greece-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Theodoros Karaoglou, Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai expressed his joy that Vietnam has extremely loyal friends who have special affection for Vietnam like the members of the Greece-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly highly appreciated the active role of the Greece-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting cooperation between the two countries' parliaments, urging the Greek Parliament to become one of the earliest parliaments to ratify the EVIPA Agreement.

Vice President of the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group Theodoros Karaoglou affirmed his commitment to strengthening coordination with the Vietnam-Greece Friendship Parliamentary Group to promote people-to-people exchange and cooperation activities between the two countries; supporting both sides to effectively implement signed cooperation documents, as well as promoting the signing of new cooperation agreements in areas suitable to the strengths and needs of the two countries.

On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the delegation visited the Greek Parliament Building and listened to an introduction about the development history and operation methods of the Greek Parliament; visited some UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritages of Greece and listened to an introduction about the history of formation and discussed ways to preserve cultural heritages.
