Lach Van fishing port (Dien Chau district) is one of the five largest fishing ports in Nghe An province. There are about 1,000 fishing boats of local fishermen regularly coming and going, creating jobs for hundreds of local workers.

On the days before the Lunar New Year 2025, at Lach Van fishing port, the atmosphere here is more bustling than on other normal days.

On December 26 (January 25), hundreds of fishing boats with capacity from 90-480CV of fishermen docked at the port with many holds full of fish and seafood.

Having been at sea for a week now, the 400CV fishing boat of fisherman Tran Xuan Dieu (born in 1986, residing in Ngoc Bich commune, Dien Chau district) has brought a ton of seafood including shrimp, squid, crab, etc. to shore.

“This fishing trip was highly productive, earning hundreds of millions of dong, so everyone is excited. After this trip, we will go home to rest and celebrate Tet. We expect to continue fishing around the 6th or 9th of the lunar calendar next year,” Mr. Dieu excitedly boasted.

At the fishing port, the atmosphere becomes more and more bustling as noon approaches, many traders jostle each other to buy seafood to serve the Tet market.

“Due to the high demand for seafood during Tet, I came here early to select products from many different boats, ensuring freshness to supply to places in the province,” said trader Le Thom (residing in Dien Chau district).

In addition, many people also come here to choose the most suitable seafood to serve their family's needs during Tet.

According to local fishermen, from around December 26, most fishing boats will be on Tet holiday. It is expected that from January 2 onwards, people will continue to go out to sea.

The offshore fishing fleet of fisherman Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1977, residing in Ngoc Bich commune, Dien Chau district) went out to sea 4 times this month (about 7 to 10 days/trip). After deducting labor and fuel costs for each trip, Nam earned more than 30 million VND in profit, bringing his total earnings to more than 130 million VND.

“The seafood market in the last months of the year is bustling, with good prices, so all the crew members are excited. In the first days of the new year, we fishermen are determined to stay at sea to both catch seafood to develop our family economy and protect the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland,” said Mr. Nam.

The leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district said that thanks to favorable sea conditions, the high fishing output has brought stable income to fishermen. This is also the motivation for them to continue to go out to sea in the new year to develop the economy and protect the sovereignty of their homeland's sea and islands.
