Receiving kumquats, sticky rice, dong leaves, and pork sent from the mainland, soldiers on DK1/10 oil rig wrapped banh chung to celebrate Tet early.

After many days of overcoming storms, the working group of the Naval Region 2 Command on the Truong Sa 04 ship arrived at the DK1/10 platform, in the Ca Mau Shoal waters, on January 17.
DK1/10 is the only platform that the delegation can visit directly. Due to the level 5 and 6 wind and waves, the previous four locations including DK1/15, DK1/11, DK1/14 and DK1/12, the delegation had to wish the officers and soldiers of the platform a Happy New Year through loudspeakers and give gifts via wire.
The gifts were tied to ropes and dropped into the sea for soldiers at the rig to pull up. Afterwards, the working group wished a happy new year via walkie-talkie from the ship's cabin. Video : Hoang Anh

Although it is nearly 20 days until the Year of the Dragon, the spring atmosphere is already bustling on the rig. New member of the DK1/10 rig Nguyen Tan Giau (left corner) and his teammates decorate flower pots to welcome Tet.
On the Truong Sa 04 ship departing from Ba Ria - Vung Tau on January 9, Nguyen Tan Giau suffered from seasickness and had to stay in bed for several days, but quickly regained his spirit and health when arriving at the platform. He will be on duty here for the next year.

Military doctor Bui Van Tho (left), 50 years old, and the oil rig staff wrap banh chung. Tho has 30 years of military service, serving on eight oil rigs and seven years celebrating Tet at sea. He sends his thanks to his wife who has spent decades taking care of the house and raising two children on her own.

Officers and soldiers with singer Le Anh Tuan (left cover) sing the song "Soldiers on the Rig Welcome Spring" : "No matter the wind or waves/ We, the soldiers on the rig, are there/ No matter the precariousness/ The soldiers on the rig are not afraid of storms/ The sun and wind, no matter the sun and wind/ The soldiers on the rig swear not to be afraid of hardship/ The rain or storm, no matter the rain or storm/ The soldiers on the rig are still blooming with roses".

The delegation held a memorial service for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the southern continental shelf of the Fatherland. In 1990, 1996, 1998 and 2000, strong storms destroyed a number of platforms where naval officers and soldiers were on duty.

Colonel Tran Hong Hai, Deputy Political Commissar of the Naval Region 2 Command (left cover), read the words of tribute to the sacrifices of Senior Lieutenant Tran Huu Quang, Professional Senior Lieutenant Tran Van La, and Soldier Ho Van Hien at DK1/3 platform in Phuc Tan cluster in 1990; Captain Vu Quang Chuong, Professional Warrant Officer Le Duc Hong, and Professional Warrant Officer Nguyen Van An at DK1/6 platform in Phuc Nguyen cluster in 1998...

Flowers were released into the sea at the end of the memorial service at Phuc Nguyen shoal.
DK is the initial letter of the phrase Service - Science and Technology, serving civil purposes at sea. DK1 is built in the form of platforms, on the southern continental shelf of Vietnam, about 250-350 nautical miles from the mainland and the southeast sea of the Fatherland. The tasks of the platforms are to set up lighthouses to notify fishing boats and maritime transport vessels traveling in the area; set up hydrometeorological research stations; act as a place to shelter from storms and rescue fishermen; and guard and protect the sovereignty of the southern continental shelf of the Fatherland, protecting the peace for exploiting resources on the continental shelf.
