Releasing rare Loris into the wild

On August 13, Yen Minh Commune Police coordinated with the Forest Protection Department of Region XV and other relevant agencies to release a large loris (scientific name Nycticebus coucang) into the wild. This is an endangered and rare animal, listed in the Vietnam Red Book and is in the priority protection group.

Previously, at around 7pm on August 12, Mr. Dinh Van Phuong, residing in Group 5, Yen Minh Commune, discovered a strange animal in his garden, near the chicken coop of Mr. Hoanh Van Hanh (born in 1987, in the same group). Many people around did not realize that this was a rare animal, so they tried to chase it away, even beat it. Mr. Phuong promptly stopped it, brought it home for temporary care and reported it to the authorities.

Upon receiving the information, Yen Minh Commune Police coordinated with the Forest Protection Department of Region XV and veterinary officers to conduct an inspection and determined that this was a large Loris, a nocturnal primate that moves slowly and is gentle, mainly eating insects and tree sap. Through assessment, this individual was in good health, not injured, and qualified to be released back into the wild.

The timely reception and release of rare Loris individuals back into the forest not only contributes to biodiversity conservation but also demonstrates people's sense of responsibility in protecting wildlife. Authorities recommend that when people discover rare wildlife, they should immediately report to the authorities and absolutely not hunt, buy, sell or illegally keep them.
