Release of rare pig-tailed macaque into the wild

QTO - On October 3, information from the People's Committee of Le Ninh commune said that local authorities had just coordinated with the Management Board of Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve to release a rare pig-tailed macaque into the natural environment.

Previously, Mr. Kieu Ngoc Ha (born in 1974, residing in village 2, Le Ninh commune) discovered a male pig-tailed macaque weighing about 10kg straying into his house, so he caught it and proactively handed it over to the authorities.

After receiving it, the authorities made a record of handover and released the pig-tailed macaque back into the natural forest in Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve.

It is known that the pig-tailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina) belongs to group IIB according to the provisions of Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government on the management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
