Specifically, the center received a 32-year-old male patient ( Hanoi ) who was hospitalized with left hemiplegia and could not speak.

According to relatives, the young man suddenly became paralyzed on one side while playing badminton and was then taken to the emergency room.

"40 minutes after entering the hospital, the patient was diagnosed with cerebral infarction due to cerebral artery occlusion and was prescribed thrombolytic drugs. After 30 minutes in the intervention room, the cerebral artery was completely re-opened.

Thanks to coming to the hospital early and receiving active reperfusion treatment using both thrombolysis and thrombectomy, the patient recovered almost completely," Mr. Ton informed.

Also on March 21, the center received a 32-year-old female patient (from Hung Yen ) with symptoms of complete left hemiplegia and slurred speech. The patient was diagnosed with acute cerebral infarction due to arterial occlusion, and within 35 minutes of admission, the patient was given thrombolytic drugs.

Mr. Ton said the patient was treated with both thrombolysis and thrombectomy. After treatment, the patient no longer had difficulty speaking, had mild weakness in the right side of his body, and his condition improved.

Who is at risk for stroke?

According to Associate Professor Ton, there are many factors related to stroke: high blood pressure, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy lifestyle, stressful work...

According to the Vietnam Heart Association, one in four people aged 25-49 have high blood pressure, which is the main cause of stroke in young people.

In addition, young stroke patients are also related to genetic factors, have vascular abnormalities, or blood clotting conditions, leading to an increased risk of blood vessel rupture or blood vessel occlusion.

What should young people do to prevent stroke?

With recent cases of young strokes, Mr. Ton recommends that young people need to be careful with the risk of stroke, a disease previously common in the elderly.

In particular, patients with underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, diabetes... need to be well managed to avoid dangerous health complications.

To prevent the risk of stroke, Mr. Ton recommends that young people should exercise regularly, control their weight, and give up smoking and unhealthy eating habits.

Screening for stroke risk factors such as cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure, blood lipids, diabetes, etc.

In particular, when there are any symptoms of stroke such as decreased vision, weak limbs, slurred speech/difficulty speaking, headache, dizziness, etc., the patient should be taken immediately to a stroke treatment unit for timely diagnosis and treatment.

Signs of stroke, never ignore

When a patient has a stroke, symptoms will occur immediately after a few minutes or after a few hours with the following signs:

- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg (symptoms usually occur on one side of the body - hemiplegia);

- Sudden inability to speak, distorted voice or the patient speaks nonsense, meaningless, unintelligible words;

- Sudden loss of vision, especially when symptoms appear in one eye;

- Sudden severe headache, dizziness, loss of balance or inability to move as desired...

Act quickly when there are signs of stroke

If anyone shows any of the above symptoms, even if they are not obvious, immediately call 115 emergency, safely transport to the nearest hospital to find a treatment opportunity within the golden hour to "save the brain".

Doctors recommend that when suddenly there are signs such as: mouth distortion, facial paralysis, numbness, half-body weakness, stiff lips and tongue, difficulty speaking or not speaking, blurred vision, headache... the patient must be taken immediately to a medical facility. Absolutely do not waste time waiting for the patient to recover or use folk remedies to treat at home.
