High School Graduation Exam 2025: Math questions are differentiated, making it difficult for candidates to get high scores

After 90 minutes of taking the Math test, many candidates commented that this year's exam was highly differentiated, with some new types of questions appearing, requiring deep reasoning and logical thinking.

On the afternoon of June 26, more than 1.1 million candidates finished the Math exam. This year's Math exam consists of 22 questions, in 3 parts: Multiple choice questions (12 questions), True/False questions (4 questions) and Short answer questions (6 questions).

In which, there are 4 true/false questions, each question has 4 ideas. Candidates who choose exactly 1 idea in a question will get 0.1 point; 2 ideas will get 0.25; 3 ideas will get 0.5. If all 4 ideas are correct, the candidate will get 1 point. Compared to previous years, this year, the scoring method has changed, no longer divided equally by 0.25 for each question.

As one of the candidates who left the exam site early at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi), candidate Dao Ngoc Bich said that this year's Math exam was quite close to reality and candidates could apply many different methods to find the final answer. Besides the easy questions, the exam also had many questions to help classify and candidates had to apply a lot of knowledge to find the answer. Ngoc Bich completed about 80% of the questions. The female candidate also assessed that, with the above exam, to get a score of 10, candidates must be really good.

"Many of the questions are in the true-false format, which can easily confuse candidates. However, I personally find this year's exam quite good, with knowledge covering the entire curriculum," Ngoc Bich shared.

With the same exam score as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, candidate Nguyen Tran Dang also shared the same opinion when he said that the Math exam had a high level of classification. Dang himself had difficulty with 2 questions related to probability because it took a lot of time to calculate.

At the Thu Duc High School exam site (Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City), candidate Minh Khang said that the exam consisted of many familiar questions in the first part, but the last questions gradually increased in difficulty, requiring candidates to apply their knowledge flexibly. "The theory part was done quickly, only taking about 5 minutes. However, I was not sure about the last 4 questions because they were quite complicated and required a lot of reasoning."

Sharing the same opinion, candidate Phan Uyen Vy, at the exam site of Thu Duc High School (Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City) said that this year's Math exam was difficult for her, especially in the geometry section and high-level application questions. "I did about 60% of the test. Tomorrow I will take the elective English and Economics and Law exams."

According to the assessment of some math teachers in Ho Chi Minh City, the math exam for the 2025 high school graduation exam has good content, no longer purely mathematical questions, heavy on calculations, techniques or special solving tips. The exam follows the spirit of the new program, innovates in the way of giving questions by incorporating practical content, creating problems for students, from which they can apply the math knowledge they have learned in school to solve.

Overall, with this year's exam, it is easy for you to get a score of 7, and a score of 9 or 10 is for good students, but you need to have the ability to calculate flexibly. This year's exam differentiates students well according to the criteria of problem-solving ability.

According to Mr. Lam Vu Cong Chinh, Math teacher, Nguyen Du High School (HCMC): "The exam structure is similar to the sample exam, the content of the questions is similar to the textbook knowledge, mainly grade 12 knowledge, the grade 10 and 11 part only accounts for 2-3 questions. Part 1 is multiple choice, 3 points, relatively easy in terms of recognition and understanding. Part 2 is true or false with differentiation. Part 3, short answer, questions 2 and 3 are high application questions. The difficulty level is higher than previous years. With such a way of asking, it is difficult to get a high score".

On June 27, candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program will take an optional exam (including 2 subjects from the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education , Information Technology, Technology, Foreign Language); candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will take an optional exam in the morning of Natural Sciences/Social Sciences, and in the afternoon of Foreign Language.
