Originating from the need to support the treatment of his wife's stomach disease, Mr. Bui Van Nhung and Ms. Bui Thi Van "fell in love" with turmeric. The idea of growing and processing turmeric for medicine was born and then started to implement it in 2015. The story of starting a business is not easy in a rural area with many difficulties and the owner comes from a poor farming family. However, with perseverance, creativity and high determination, Mr. Nhung boldly registered a business household in 2016 and developed it into Nhung Van Turmeric Starch Company Limited in 2022.

To have quality turmeric starch products, first of all, it is necessary to have guaranteed varieties and raw material areas. From that basis, Mr. Nhung chose Moi hill area as the raw material area and provided turmeric varieties, instructions on how to plant, care for, and harvest for associated households.

Households that grow turmeric like Mrs. Bui Thi Thuy in Bung hamlet remember that, for generations, the Muong people have been attached to the Moi hill slopes, which are 500 - 1,000m above sea level. The soil here is unique and closely linked to the story of the Muong land. In the past, during difficult times, cassava grown in this land had delicious quality and now people grow turmeric with high curcumin content, creating health protection products, opening up development directions for ethnic minority areas.

From the initial 1-2 hectares of turmeric, Nhung Van Turmeric Starch Company Limited has now expanded the raw material area to nearly 20 hectares, with over 100 households linked to production, with an output of about 50 tons of fresh turmeric per crop. This means creating more jobs for Muong farmers, with an economic value 3-4 times higher than growing corn and cassava.

Nhung Van turmeric starch products meet 4-star OCOP standards at provincial level

Along with building a safe raw material area, the Company invests in a factory system, processing machinery, and applies modern freeze-drying technology to preserve the curcumin content - a precious active ingredient in turmeric. This helps But Van turmeric starch have a bright yellow color, a mild, smooth aroma, and is trusted by consumers. Each crop, the Company supplies the market with over 1 ton of turmeric starch products.

The processing procedure is strictly controlled, from harvesting, cleaning, grinding, refining, freeze-drying, to packaging in specialized packaging with traceability stamps. The entire production process is carried out in a closed loop, ensuring food hygiene and safety. In 2023, Nhung Van turmeric starch products will be certified with 4-star OCOP, meeting ISO 22000:2018 standards.

In parallel with creating quality products, the Company pays attention to designing eye-catching packaging and labels and actively participates in fairs, exhibitions, and trade promotion programs... Most recently, the product of But Van turmeric starch was present at the National Achievement Exhibition "80 Years of Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" - the display area of Phu Tho province. The product has appeared on the shelves of many clean food stores, introducing typical OCOP products.

Affirming the quality, from Muong land, But Van turmeric starch products have reached out to the world and have exported a batch to the UK - a "difficult" market with strict standards. The product is also promoted in many potential markets such as the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Korea... This is a remarkable effort of a young enterprise in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, where from production households to workers and directors are all Muong ethnic people.

Not stopping at turmeric starch, the Company has researched and diversified its products. Currently, it has developed additional products such as spice turmeric powder, turmeric tea (combined with turmeric, ginger, betel leaves), and wild guava leaf tea. All products are produced from native plant sources, in a natural environment, without pesticide residues, combined with modern technology. The Company has also boldly cooperated with Hanoi Medical University to research and extract pure turmeric essential oil - a product to treat allergies, itching, insect bites... and is completing procedures to publish in the drug list.

With its continuous efforts, Nhung Van Turmeric Starch Company Limited is considered one of the typical examples in the patriotic emulation movement of the province. This is both a recognition and a motivation for the Company's staff, workers and hundreds of ethnic minority households to continue to strive in production, actively contributing to the development of the homeland of Muong.

Fueling the desire to go further, the Company aims to expand the raw material area, create more sustainable jobs for local people; expand the factory to meet the needs of timely production and invest in high-capacity machinery. At the same time, it hopes to continue to receive the attention and support of all levels and sectors in the development journey.
