Long An province develops high-tech vegetable growing area beyond plan

Currently, Long An province is promoting a high-tech vegetable production program. Traditional vegetable growing areas are encouraged to convert to high-tech vegetable growing, especially meeting organic criteria.

Long An Provincial People's Committee assessed that, in general, there has been a clear change in the province's traditional vegetable growing areas, with nearly 100% of farmers using organic fertilizers in vegetable production. Adding organic fertilizers helps improve the soil, plants grow better, and prolongs the time to change the soil...

When applying synchronous scientific and technical solutions such as: using organic fertilizers, biological products, biological pesticides, watering with water-saving irrigation systems, especially growing vegetables in greenhouses, greenhouses... not only the productivity and quality of vegetables are much better than traditional vegetable growing methods, but farmers also save a lot on fertilizer costs, pesticides, and labor (about 40% of the total cost of chemical fertilizers and pesticides).

Currently, vegetables grown in Long An are providing a huge output for the Ho Chi Minh City market. With that advantage, many high-tech vegetable growing cooperatives in Long An have been established, linking production and helping cooperative members consume products.

In Can Duoc district alone, there are 5 high-tech vegetable production cooperatives participating in linking and consuming products by directly working with purchasing units through product purchasing contracts. The cooperative receives orders to supply, and organizes members to produce to meet customer requirements.

Most of the cooperatives in the district have signed contracts to link agricultural product consumption with collective kitchens of kindergartens, companies, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets: Coopmart, Satrafood, San Ha Food, Bach Hoa Xanh... and wholesale agricultural markets, traditional markets. Linked products must ensure the requirements of being produced locally, have clear labels, packaging, or traceability codes.

Can Giuoc district has 33 cooperatives and 102 cooperative groups. Of these, 10 cooperatives and 1 vegetable growing cooperative group have been granted VietGAP certificate; 1 cooperative group has organic certificate, 5 cooperatives have achieved food safety and hygiene value chain.
