Special nests of birds in the Seven Mountains region of An Giang

(Dan Tri) - Tra Su Melaleuca Forest was formed in 1983, the initial purpose was to prevent salinity and flood upstream. Up to now, this is a unique tourist destination and home to hundreds of species of animals and plants in An Giang.

Located about 30km from Chau Doc city ( An Giang ), Tra Su cajuput forest with an area of ​​845ha core zone and 643ha buffer zone is part of the system of special-use forests of Vietnam, recognized as a landscape protection area in 2005.

Coming to Tra Su cajuput forest, visitors have the opportunity to visit and experience the natural scenery on the river by rowing boat or sampan.

Tra Su Melaleuca Forest is home to more than 70 bird species, including two rare species listed in the Vietnam Red Book: Mycteria leucocephala and Anhinga melanogaster.

Initially, the purpose of planting forests to prevent salinity and flood upstream. From a deserted lowland area, heavily contaminated with alum, Tinh Bien Forestry Company planted Melaleuca trees on a trial basis. After many years of renovation and development, this place has become the "green lung" of An Giang and is visited by many domestic and foreign tourists.

Many tourists are amazed by the captivating beauty of the landscape and the life of many species of birds here.

Ms. Cao Hoang Yen (23 years old, An Giang) and her friend from Laos have visited Tra Su Melaleuca forest tourist area many times. "Every time I come here, the feeling is the same as the first time. The natural scenery and interesting experiences are unforgettable," Ms. Yen said.

Mr. Le Hoang An, Director of Tra Su Melaleuca Forest Ecotourism Area, said that forest conservation and biodiversity activities at the tourist area include maintaining the habitat for endemic flora and fauna. In addition to tourism development, we always put nature conservation first. Mr. An added that during the flood season, visitors account for 30% of the total number of visitors of the year.

Besides, Tra Su cajuput forest is known for its scenes of the Western floating market in many famous movies .

With its unique architecture and 10km length, the ten-thousand-step bamboo bridge has been recorded as the longest bamboo bridge in Vietnam.

During the flood season at Tra Su cajuput forest, visitors can enjoy typical dishes such as linh fish, sesban flowers, snakehead fish, fish sauce hotpot... all of which have the typical culinary features of the West.

Not only rich in animals, Tra Su cajuput forest is also a gathering place of 140 plant species.
