During the phone call on the afternoon of August 14, General Secretary To Lam and Mr. Hun Sen informed each other about the situation of each Party and each country; discussed the regional and international situation, relations between the two Parties and two countries and a number of issues of mutual concern; reviewed and evaluated the results of cooperation in recent times and agreed on key directions to further deepen cooperation between the two Parties and two countries in the coming time.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the two leaders expressed their delight at the important results achieved at the high-level meeting between the two Parties and the high-level meeting between the three leaders of the three Parties of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in February 2025.
General Secretary To Lam and Mr. Hun Sen agreed to continue to strengthen relations through Party and State channels, consolidate political trust, increase the exchange of high-level visits and visits at ministerial, sectoral and local levels; promote existing cooperation mechanisms as well as other high-level agreements; continue to share timely information, consult each other on international and regional issues, and issues related to bilateral relations, contributing to the increasingly substantial development of bilateral relations in the new period, serving the practical interests of the two peoples.
In a friendly atmosphere, General Secretary To Lam congratulated Cambodia on its socio-economic development achievements in recent years, under the wise leadership of the Cambodian People's Party and the Royal Government of Cambodia, contributing to improving the lives of the Cambodian people.
The General Secretary welcomed the positive progress that Cambodia and Thailand have made regarding border issues between the two countries.
President Hun Sen thanked General Secretary To Lam for his invitation and announced that he would attend the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
He highly appreciated the profound significance and emphasized that the 80th Anniversary Celebration demonstrates the strength of national unity, heroic spirit and indomitable will of the Vietnamese people in the long-term resistance wars against foreign invaders and for national independence.
He also expressed his admiration for Vietnam's achievements in economic, social and foreign affairs development under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary To Lam. President Hun Sen expressed his belief that Vietnam will steadily develop, enter a new era for the nation, and achieve the two 100-year goals set.
Regarding the international and regional situation, the two leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual concern. General Secretary To Lam stressed that disputes must be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and practices; and that ASEAN's central role should be promoted for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.
