Ho Chi Minh City sets up fund to help unemployed workers and disadvantaged people

The city's social security fund will support vulnerable groups such as unemployed workers, help freelance workers earn a living, and provide health care for people without health insurance cards.

The information was given by Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, at the launching ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City Social Security Fund on the afternoon of November 18. The Fund aims to promote the results of the Social Security Center established when Covid-19 broke out, focusing on supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable groups that the current funds of the Front such as For the Poor, Relief... have not covered.

From now until the end of the first quarter of next year, the City Social Security Fund will implement 8 programs focusing on unemployed workers such as: supporting means of livelihood; helping pregnant female workers with childbirth expenses; supporting health check-up costs for freelance workers without health insurance; giving gifts, organizing for 1,000 workers' families to stay in the city to celebrate spring, giving bus tickets for students to return home, giving gifts to children in difficult circumstances during Tet... The total estimated cost is about 3.8 billion VND.

According to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, the establishment of the City Social Security Fund will help support programs become more transparent and the groups that will be helped will be more specific. Activities will be made public on the app and website of the Social Security Center.

The operating budget of the Ho Chi Minh City Social Security Fund comes from contributions from collectives, individuals, businesses and people of the city through the account of the City Fatherland Front.

The Ho Chi Minh City Social Security Center was established in August 2021 with the task of receiving and supporting essential goods to serve people in difficulty due to Covid-19.
