HCMC: Two specialized high schools enroll additional students in English, Math, and Natural Sciences

On the afternoon of April 22, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued instructions on admission to specialized 10th grade classes for the 2024-2025 school year. The new point this year is the admission of additional specialized English subjects according to Project 5695 (including English, Math, and Natural Science exams in English) at Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia specialized high schools.

Accordingly, from the 2024-2025 school year, there will be many changes in the enrollment of specialized 10th graders. Specifically, two specialized high schools, Le Hong Phong (District 5) and Tran Dai Nghia (District 1), will stop enrolling non-specialized classes. Specialized classes in the school usually enroll students until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

High schools: Nguyen Thuong Hien, Gia Dinh, Nguyen Huu Huan, Mac Dinh Chi enroll students for specialized and regular 10th grade. Specialized subjects include: Literature, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, English, Chinese, Japanese, French and Information Technology.

As for the English subject, candidates can register in one of two ways: register to take the English subject exam similar to previous years or take the English subject exam according to Project 5695 (including English, Math, Natural Science in English. This form is only applicable at 2 specialized high schools including Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia).

For the IT subject, candidates can choose the specialized subject exam of IT or specialized Math. In case the candidate does not choose the specialized subject exam, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will consider the candidate as registering to take the specialized subject exam of IT.

Subjects and conditions for admission to specialized 10th grade include: Students who have graduated from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City (students who have graduated from junior high school in other provinces and cities can only apply to Le Hong Phong Specialized High School); at the age of entering grade 10 (15 years old, except for special cases); conduct and academic performance for the entire school year of grades 6, 7, 8 from good and above and graduated from junior high school with honors.

Admission score to specialized classes is the sum of Literature, Foreign Language, Math and specialized subject scores (coefficient 2).

If not admitted to specialized grade 10, junior high school graduates in Ho Chi Minh City can still apply to regular grade 10 according to their 3 registered wishes.
