Ho Chi Minh City launched propaganda and mobilized people to dismantle "tiger cages"

On July 12, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Ho Chi Minh City Police) coordinated with the People's Committees of wards and communes in the city to organize a ceremony to propagate fire prevention and rescue (PCCC-CNCH), mobilizing people to dismantle "tiger cage" iron cages and open second escape routes in apartment buildings and houses with many apartments.

At apartment building 518 Vo Van Kiet (Cau Ong Lanh ward), many people attended the propaganda session, were disseminated by officers and soldiers about fire prevention knowledge, skills to identify fire and explosion risks and how to handle situations when an incident occurs. People were also encouraged to respond to the model "My house has 3 things", including: having fire alarm equipment, having gas masks, having a second escape route.

Residents of apartment building 518 Vo Van Kiet were instructed to remove the "tiger cage" and open the fire escape right after the propaganda session.

The representative of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department emphasized that although the iron "tiger cage" helps to limit theft, it poses a serious risk in case of fire or explosion, hindering rescue and escape work. The authorities called on people to proactively dismantle the "tiger cage" and open a safe escape route through the balcony, loggia by rope ladder or open door.

On this occasion, households were also given fire extinguishers and instructions on how to use them. The authorities also introduced and guided the installation of the Help 114 application - a platform that supports fire alarms, rescues, and transmits live images of the scene to the Command Center.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Que (a long-time resident of apartment building 518 Vo Van Kiet) is one of the pioneers who agreed to dismantle the "tiger cage", sharing: " In the past, I built tiger cages to prevent theft, but after many tragic fires, I realized this was a big risk. Now that the security situation is more stable, I agreed to dismantle it to ensure the safety of my whole family."

According to the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Area 1, in recent times, the unit has increased coordination in organizing propaganda in apartment buildings, requiring households to sign a commitment not to install "tiger cages", not to arbitrarily expand balconies, not to illegally connect electricity, and to proactively create emergency escape routes.

Apartment 518 Vo Van Kiet was built nearly 30 years ago. According to residents, in the first years of operation, the security situation in the area was still complicated, so many households proactively installed iron "tiger cages" in the balcony area to prevent theft.

Currently, of the more than 100 households living here, most of the apartments have "tiger cages". Some households have proactively arranged open windows to create escape routes, but still do not fully meet the safety requirements as prescribed.
