Awarding the Medal for Cultural Achievement to Swedish Director

Director Bo Öhlén received a Commemorative Medal from the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture for his contribution to promoting Vietnamese history and culture through the documentary "Vietnam's Victory."

On September 10 in Stockholm, Sweden, famous Swedish film director Bo Öhlén was awarded the Medal for the Cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism according to Decision No. 2483/QD-BVHTTDL dated July 17, 2025 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam.

This award recognizes Mr. Bo Öhlén's outstanding contributions to promoting Vietnamese history and culture through the documentary film “Victory Vietnam” .

The awarding ceremony was solemnly held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden with the participation of Ambassador Tran Van Tuan, Mrs. Maria Meschke - wife of director Bo Öhlén, representatives of the Vietnamese Association in Sweden, the Vietnamese Association in Stockholm, and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Tran Van Tuan emphasized that Victory Vietnam is a truly touching and authentic documentary, which was officially released to Vietnamese audiences in April 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The work was premiered on a large scale in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , as well as on national television via Vietnam Television (VTV), creating a great resonance and touching the hearts of tens of millions of Vietnamese people at home and abroad.

The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for director Bo Öhlén’s contributions in preserving the turning points in Vietnam’s history. His film not only vividly depicts Vietnam’s spirit of fighting for independence but also contributes to strengthening the cultural relationship between the two countries.

“His dedication to introducing Vietnamese history has helped Swedish and international audiences better understand our country,” the Ambassador stressed.

Speaking when receiving the Commemorative Medal, director Bo Öhlén emotionally expressed his honor to receive this recognition from the Government and people of Vietnam.

He shared: "When making this film, I wanted to convey the genuine emotions and spirit of solidarity that I witnessed in Sweden at that historic moment. I hope the film is not only a documentary but also a cultural bridge that helps bring the people of the two countries closer together."

In a congratulatory letter to director Bo Öhlén, Ms. Le Thi Ha, Director of the Vietnam Film Institute, expressed her gratitude to the Institute for receiving the film. This is a valuable historical document and a symbol of international solidarity that Sweden has given to Vietnam during the most difficult period, a spirit that Vietnam still cherishes to this day.

The award ceremony is also an opportunity to reaffirm the respect of the Government and people of Vietnam for the loyal and close affection that the Government and people of Sweden have had for Vietnam for many decades.

At the same time, this event has contributed to further tightening the friendship and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden in the fields of culture and cinema, affirming the two countries' common commitment to promoting respect, understanding and cultural exchange between peoples./.
