Implementing the Project to expand and establish new marine reserves by 2030

The Provincial People's Committee has just issued a plan to implement the Project to expand and establish new marine reserves, aquatic resource protection areas, and restore marine ecosystems by 2030 in Binh Thuan province.

This plan will strengthen conservation and protection work to develop aquatic resources, stabilize biodiversity and the integrity of coastal and island ecosystems of the province; contribute to the whole country in achieving the goal of reaching about 6% of Vietnam's natural sea area; proactively respond to climate change and rising sea levels; sustainably develop marine economic sectors; stabilize livelihoods for the community associated with ensuring national defense and security, maintaining independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland.

Accordingly, it will establish and effectively manage marine reserves, aquatic resources protection areas, and temporary fishing ban areas in the province's sea area according to the Prime Minister 's Plan for the Protection and Exploitation of Aquatic Resources for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. Ensure the total area of ​​marine reserves, sea areas zoned for aquatic resources protection, protection of concentrated breeding areas, and areas where young aquatic species live in concentrated habitats of aquatic species in the province's sea area according to the approved plan.

The plan contributes to improving capacity for conservation, protection and restoration of marine ecosystems.

To implement the plan, Binh Thuan province will deploy many priority programs, projects, and plans, including a communication program to improve capacity on conservation, protection, and restoration of marine ecosystems; an annual monitoring program of biodiversity and environment in marine reserves and aquatic resource protection areas; a project to investigate and assess the current status of aquatic resources and biodiversity in coastal waters of Binh Thuan province; and a project to replicate the co-management model in protecting aquatic resources in coastal waters of Binh Thuan province.
