No longer limited to walking slowly and looking at paintings in galleries, today's youth enjoy art in many more unique ways.

The emphasis on experience among younger generations has led to innovation in the way art is viewed. Multi-sensory exhibitions have emerged, allowing access to the artwork through sight, taste, smell and sound in an innovative way, resulting in emotional amplification.

Interact with art

The Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience exhibition has been around since 2017, attracting millions of visitors across Europe and America. In 2023, this multi-sensory interactive exhibition continues to "make waves" in Southeast Asia when it visits Singapore, Thailand and most recently Vietnam. The Van Gogh Art Lighting Experience exhibition at Gigamall Shopping Center (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) brings a new digital performance and virtual reality technology.

The use of technology helps connect the viewer's emotions with the artist's experience in a profound way.

The "interactive corridor" with visual effects combined with music forces viewers to leave behind their busy thoughts and enter the "Van Gogh painting universe". The restaurant, cafe and souvenir counter areas are also designed to match the main style of the exhibition.

Present at the exhibition from the first day, Minh Chau (from Khanh Hoa ) was completely immersed in the 24 minutes of displaying classic works through 3D mapping technology (a technique that combines light and animation to create a 3D effect on a flat surface).

The walls and floors are filled with dreamy colors. From the starry sky to the enchanting sunflowers, they give the viewer a vivid sense of Van Gogh's thoughts, emotions and state of mind.

Monet & Friends is an immersive French Impressionist art experience

Vo Thi Yen Thu (a bank employee in Ho Chi Minh City) regretted that the short visit duration did not allow her to have a complete experience. Thu could not both enjoy the art and complete the painting and coloring at the workshop within the required 2 hours. When she learned that the organizer had launched the upgraded version "Van Gogh Immersive 720" with an area of up to 390 m2 in the outdoor area, Thu quickly returned to "immerse" herself in the vivid and sharp art space from every angle.

Stimulate all senses

Meanwhile, at ICONSIAM Shopping Center (Bangkok - Thailand), Monet & Friends Alive offers a unique immersive experience. The exhibition activates all the senses through light, sound, smell and even taste with a cafe called Café de Flore - serving light meals inspired by the flavors of 19th-century France.

In a room filled with giant screens illuminated by dozens of projectors, more than 3,500 moving masterpieces highlight the bold strokes of painters Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas… The exhibition puts viewers at the center of iconic scenes of the Impressionist school. Viewers are led on a visual journey, receiving new impressions from already familiar works.

The multi-sensory exhibition is an adventurous journey of memorable emotions.

Le Trang (living in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) enjoys painting in the Monet garden area. She said: "Each drawing room has instructional videos and tools. After sketching lines with a pencil, the staff uses the device to convert my work into impressionist style. AI technology gives me 4 models to choose from and download the photo I like best as a souvenir."

"The spectacular exhibition is filled with light, color and sound. Instead of just staring at the static paintings, people can walk, sit or even lie down and enjoy the works enlarged, reduced, moving interspersed with quotes from the artists" - Phu Ngoc Phuong Trang (29 years old, tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) shared. Each show lasts more than 40 minutes combined with synchronized background music from great composers Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Claude Debussy... Famous works by Claude Monet such as Garden at Sainte-Adresse, Woman with a Parasol - Madame Monet and Her Son, Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge... create a sense of peace and tranquility. Free expressions; short, quick brush strokes; Capture the moment and use the bright, vibrant colors of impressionism to fill the space, bringing many interesting surprises.
