Starting from the concern about how local agricultural products, especially in remote areas, can find a place in the market, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Ha (born in 1976) decided to enter the agricultural sector. At the end of 2021, she and 10 others established the Viet Hung Agriculture - Forestry - Fishery Cooperative (Vuon Ram village, Son Duong commune, now Hoanh Bo ward), with her as Director, with the desire to improve product quality and support farmers. Each product contains Ms. Ha's passion and enthusiasm for clean agriculture and precious feelings for ethnic minority people.
After the success with traditional OCOP products, she continued to embark on another potential project of developing yellow camellia trees on Thien Son peak, Ky Thuong commune. She shared: "Our cooperative currently has more than 2,000 yellow camellia trees planted by Dao people scattered in Dong Lam, Dong Son, and old Ky Thuong communes, now Ky Thuong commune. Each tree is 5-7 years old and has already yielded a second harvest. In the first crop, the cooperative purchased about 1 ton of flowers from the people. This second crop, we purchased more than 2 tons. We bought them, froze them, then dried them in filter bags. We sold out as soon as we made them."
Ms. Ha also said that the Cooperative is increasing investment in processing machinery and equipment, aiming to make 4-star OCOP products for the Hoanh Bo yellow flower tea brand, because the characteristic flavor of the camellias grown in this high mountainous area will be different from yellow flower tea in other lands. To produce high-quality yellow flower tea, the Cooperative guides people to pay attention to careful care, ensuring adequate watering, organic fertilizer application and pest control are necessary factors. Right from the first yellow flower tea crops, Ms. Ha and the Dao ethnic people were able to widely sell their products at the Bang Ca village festival (now in Quang La commune).
By focusing on the yellow camellia tree, a plant with high economic and medicinal value, Viet Hung Cooperative has been creating more jobs and increasing income for farmers, especially in disadvantaged areas. The success of the yellow camellia model in Ky Thuong also opens up a new direction for agricultural tourism, contributing to the development of sustainable agriculture in the locality. Mr. Khieu Anh Tu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Thuong Commune, commented: "We highly encourage models like the yellow camellia growing model in Ky Thuong. This model ensures good output for farmers' agricultural products."
