Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention; Mr. Dang Khac Loi, Deputy Director of the Press Department; Mr. Le Trong Dam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper chaired the workshop.

Opening the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention Nguyen Van Tien affirmed: Since the beginning of the year, we have suffered many major natural disasters. However, thanks to the drastic direction, participation of forces and proactiveness of the people, human losses have been minimized.

The workshop not only equips reporters with knowledge and skills for safe work, but also emphasizes the social responsibility of the press: each news report, each image, each quote must aim to protect children, raise public awareness, spread good examples, humane stories, thereby turning early warnings into early actions, minimizing damage to the whole society.

During the workshop, journalists from several provinces and cities across the country were informed about seven main topics related to child-centered communication in disaster situations.

Journalists discuss issues related to media work.

That is an overview of the natural disaster situation in Vietnam and some key issues on PCTT when implementing the 2-level local government model; the current situation of the Vietnamese press and the role of press agencies in propaganda work on PCTT. Agriculture and Environment Newspaper with propaganda work on PCTT, climate change; early warning in PCTT of hydrometeorological origin; first aid skills in emergency situations; news writing skills, articles focusing on children in natural disasters.

Participants of the workshop also exchanged and shared experiences and skills in working on the scene in natural disaster situations for different types of journalism; learned about the management, monitoring and warning of natural disasters, floods and environmental incidents at the Hue City Smart Urban Monitoring and Operation Center (Hue - S).
