From plumber to 'monstrous' veteran of An Giang Trade Union

In the An Giang Trade Union team in the Southern qualifying round of the Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament 2025, there is a special "veteran". Mr. Lam Van Tinh - a water pipe repairman in An Giang - still persistently burns himself out on the field.

The older the ginger, the spicier it is.

Born in 1986, Lam Van Tinh is one of the oldest players in the tournament. However, on the field, he shows amazing performance.

With a "monstrous" left foot and skillful personal technique, he is also compared by the team's fans to the former famous Vietnamese football player "Pham Thanh Luong of An Giang football".

Although he is physically weaker, he makes up for it with his flexibility and abundant physical strength. The 39-year-old striker always appears at the hot spot of the match and always urges his young teammates.

His excellent performance helped An Giang Union win all 6 points after 2 matches and have a wide opening to the quarter-finals.

Balancing passion and making a living

In real life, Mr. Tinh is a diligent worker for a water supply company, whose daily job is to repair and record water meters. The work is hard and requires meticulousness, but it cannot extinguish the passion for football that has burned in him since childhood.

He shared: "After work, I go to the field with my brothers. Football not only helps me exercise but is also a place to relieve stress and recharge after a hard day's work."

To maintain his physical strength and form at the age of U40, Mr. Tinh has had to make a lot of effort. He maintains a scientific and moderate lifestyle and exercise regimen. In particular, he does not drink alcohol to keep his body as healthy as possible.

Lam Van Tinh's story is a testament to the fact that age is no barrier to passion. From a simple worker, he has become a formidable "veteran" on the field, a typical face of the workers' football movement.

The 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament is jointly organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor , and Vietnam Football Federation. This is the third consecutive year the tournament has taken place.

The 2025 tournament is sponsored by Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO), Dong Luc Sports Group, HTP Pharmaceutical Investment Joint Stock Company, Hoa Sen Group Joint Stock Company, Sunshine Group, Saigon Water Corporation (SAWACO), Faslink Fashion Connection Joint Stock Company, 108 Central Military Hospital, 175 Military Hospital and a number of enterprises.

The Northern qualifying round took place from October 3 to 5 at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, determining 6 names to win tickets to the national final round, including the champion, the People's Public Security Trade Union.
