Ho Chi Minh City has just successfully held the 1st Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, identifying the aspiration to transform itself into a regional industrial - high-tech center. Currently, the city has more than 43,000 industrial enterprises, accounting for 28% of the country and contributing more than 25% of the national industrial production value. After the merger, the proportion of industry and construction in the economic structure has increased from more than 21% to nearly 40%.
The development potential of Ho Chi Minh City as it aims to become the leading industrial - high-tech center in the region, with more than 43,000 industrial enterprises contributing more than 25% of the national production value.
The resonance of localities after the merger allows Ho Chi Minh City to develop an industrial strategy based on existing advantages, aiming at industries with high technology content and high added value. However, the transformation from a labor-intensive industrial model to a high-tech industry is still a big challenge, requiring appropriate mechanisms and time to change both infrastructure and human resources.
Binh Duong Ward - one of the industrial locomotives of the region - is promoting the attraction of high-tech industrial investment with the motto of sustainable development, not trading the environment for growth. Enterprises prioritize automation and digitalization of production lines.
At VSIP 2 Industrial Park, Omron Healthcare Manufacturing Vietnam has put into operation an automatic blood pressure monitor production line, reducing the workforce from 108 to 24 thanks to the application of smart technology. Along with that, many projects in the semiconductor field are also taking shape, promising to create a new breakthrough for the region.
From the priority orientation of attracting investment in the semiconductor industry, in Binh Duong area there are a number of modern semiconductor chip factories, many partners are also looking for investment cooperation opportunities in this field.
High-quality human resources are also emphasized. Vietnam-Germany University and Eastern International University have implemented microchip engineering training programs, creating a human resource foundation for the high-tech industry in the future.
In Ho Chi Minh City, many businesses have demonstrated their ability to master high technology. The camera module system researched, manufactured and exported by Gremsy Company to more than 80% of countries and territories - of which 60% of the market share is in North America - is a clear proof.
In the field of renewable energy, a representative of Indefol Group said that Ho Chi Minh City's plan to invest 4-5% of its annual budget in science and technology is the right direction, opening up opportunities for parallel development of digital transformation and green transformation.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, Phu My Super White Float Glass Company and Cai Mep - Thi Vai International Port (CMIT) are becoming bright spots in the region's industrial - logistics chain.
With Cai Mep - Thi Vai International Port (CMIT) - the largest deep-water port cluster in Vietnam, the application of digital technology in management and operation has contributed to improving operational efficiency, creating a foundation to become an international-class logistics center.
By 2045, Ho Chi Minh City strives to become the leading industrial and high-tech center in Southeast Asia, with high-tech industry accounting for over 60% of production value. Immediately after the first City Party Congress, all sectors and levels are gradually putting the Resolution into practice, turning aspirations into reality.
The proportion of high-tech industry accounting for over 60% of production value partly demonstrates Ho Chi Minh City's determination to "dream" of becoming the leading high-tech industrial center in Southeast Asia by 2045.
The Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee also set a target of average GRDP growth of 10-11% per year, promoting the advantages of seaports, logistics and green energy, creating a driving force for the entire region.
According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), investing in technology is an important solution to help the economy withstand the global recession. Ho Chi Minh City will focus on three strategic breakthroughs in the next 5 years to realize the goal of becoming a leading industrial - high-tech center in Southeast Asia.
From Resolution to action is a long journey, requiring determination from awareness to implementation of the entire political system and business community, to turn the aspiration of developing high-tech industry into reality.
