
According to the list of candidates proposed by the Council of Professors for consideration and recognition of meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor in 2025, announced by the State Council of Professors, the Literature sector has only 1 candidate for associate professor, no candidates for professor.
The only candidate for associate professor of Literature this year is Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam, Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam, born in 1975, is from Thang Tam, Vung Tau, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old). She graduated with a BA in Literature, majoring in Vietnamese Literature from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University in 1997.
In 2002, she received a Master's degree in Literature, specializing in Vietnamese Literature from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University; then in 2007, she received a PhD in Literature, specializing in Literary Theory and History here.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree, Ms. Tam was a candidate for a research internship at the Department of Literature, Institute of Social Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, a teaching assistant and then a lecturer at the Faculty of Literature and Journalism (later changed to the Faculty of Literature and Language), University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; a graduate student intern in the United States; and an international scholar researching Japanese studies at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan.
In 2012, she became a lecturer, Head of the Department of Literature, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. From April 2016 to March 2018, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam was a part-time Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan.
After that, she successively held the positions of Head of the Department of Vietnamese Literature and Arts, Deputy Dean, Deputy Dean in charge, before becoming Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi from July 2021.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam's main research directions include: Vietnamese literature in the East Asian context; Religion in relation to literature, philosophy, aesthetics; Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam has published 41 scientific articles, including 2 scientific articles in prestigious international journals (main author and second author). In addition, she has published 4 books, with 2 books from prestigious publishers; supervised 1 PhD student to successfully defend his thesis; and supervised 7 graduate students to successfully defend their Master's theses.
She has taught at several universities abroad in English and (partly) Japanese, and was appointed Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan.
This year, the number of candidates requesting recognition for the title of professor and associate professor is 933, a sharp increase compared to 2024.
Of the 933 candidates, 89 candidates requested to be considered for recognition as professors and 844 candidates requested to be considered for recognition as associate professors. This list does not include candidates from the two Councils of Professors of Security Science and Military Science.
Accordingly, all 26 sectors/interdisciplinary sectors have candidates. In 2024, the Culture sector has "no" candidates participating in the proposal for review.
