Russian cancer vaccine opens new hope for humanity

(Dan Tri) - Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan congratulated Russian scientists on achieving a landmark achievement in research and development of a new vaccine against cancer.

On September 12, at the Ministry of Health , Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan held bilateral talks with Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko on cooperation in the health sector between the two Ministries of Health in particular and the two countries in general.

Minister Dao Hong Lan congratulated the Ministry of Health and scientists of the Russian Federation on their groundbreaking achievements in the research and development of a new anti-cancer vaccine, announced in early September. This is a scientific and medical technological achievement that opens up new hope for humanity in the fight against cancer.

Speaking at the meeting, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko congratulated the Vietnamese Ministry of Health on its many internationally recognized achievements.

The Russian Minister of Health also shared the contents that the two sides aim to discuss on bilateral cooperation in priority areas of cooperation such as: Cooperation in exchanging medical equipment, exchanging experts in the fields of maternal and child health, anti-cancer technology, biotechnology, etc.

The Russian Ministry of Health wishes to cooperate in developing and expanding the medical tourism model, creating conditions for Russian people to come for treatment and health care.

To enhance cooperation between the two sides, the Russian Ministry of Health is willing to provide a list of leading hospitals, vaccine research centers, technology applications, and pharmaceutical enterprises in the above fields to Vietnam.

According to Minister Dao Hong Lan, this meeting program continues to open up areas of interest to both sides, while concretizing the Joint Statement that the two countries' Senior Leaders approved last May and specifically implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on medical cooperation, contributing to making the medical cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation increasingly deeper, more effective and more substantial.

The Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Health have recently awarded many scholarships and organized many training courses for Vietnamese students and medical staff in many fields.

The two sides continue to pay attention to the field of basic scientific research, development and training of high-quality medical human resources, especially in training and improving the professional qualifications of medical staff. Vietnam and the Russian Federation can cooperate in exchanging students and lecturers, participating in training courses and clinical practice at medical facilities of the two countries.

The Minister also asked the Russian Minister of Health to work with relevant agencies to increase the scholarship quota for Vietnamese medical and pharmaceutical students to study in Russia to higher than the current figure of 30 out of 1,000 scholarships each year.

Regarding cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, Vietnam wishes to expand cooperation in the production and transfer of technology for the production of new, high-quality drugs, especially biological products, vaccines, and drugs for the treatment of cancer and rare diseases. The Vietnamese Ministry of Health highly appreciates the potential for cooperation between pharmaceutical enterprises of the two countries.

The revised Pharmacy Law of 2024 also provides many preferential policies to encourage and promote increased investment in vaccine testing and production in Vietnam. This will contribute to promoting cooperation in vaccine production and transfer of drug production technology from Russia to Vietnam.

Minister Dao Hong Lan affirmed that the two sides can strengthen cooperation in digital healthcare, remote medical examination and treatment, smart medical applications, and AI in healthcare to improve efficiency in management and provision of medical services for people, with pediatric patients, cancer, and rare diseases.

With the medical tourism model, the Minister hopes to learn from Russia's model of convalescence and treatment, while promoting cooperation and expanding this model in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the talks, the Vietnamese Minister of Health also requested the Russian Minister of Health to continue to pay attention and direct the two sides to continue implementing cooperation contents according to the roadmap until 2030 agreed between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

This includes expanding cooperation so that new drugs, vaccines, and biological products from Russia and Vietnam can access the markets of the two countries, in accordance with the laws of each side; cooperating in research and development and technology transfer for mRNA vaccine production; researching and developing medicinal herbs and biological drugs, etc.
