As planned, SATRIA-1 - Indonesia's most powerful telecommunications satellite in Asia with a capacity of 150 Gbps - will be launched into orbit on June 19 by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida (USA) and become operational in early 2024.

Ismail, Director General of Postal Resources and Information Equipment at the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information, said that SATRIA-1's service will be free and complement the existing telecommunications infrastructure by providing direct connection to Internet terminals without the need for base transceiver stations (BTS). With 11 ground stations, SATRIA-1 will mainly provide internet access for public services, focusing on education, health care, local governments, military and police in remote areas. The total cost of the SATRIA-1 project is up to 540 million USD, 90 million USD higher than the initial estimate.
