Vietnam has 17 universities in the top quality schools in Asia.

17 Vietnamese universities have just entered the Asian rankings, of which 4 schools are in the top 200.

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) education organization has just announced the 2025 Asian university rankings. Vietnam has 17 schools in this list, an increase of 2 schools compared to the previous ranking. These two names are Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Vinh University.

Duy Tan University still ranked highest at 127, but has dropped 10 places compared to last year. Following it are Hanoi National University, ranked 161, and Ho Chi Minh City National University, ranked 184 – both up more than 20 places. Also in the top 200 is Ton Duc Thang University, ranked 199.

Regionally, China leads with the largest number of universities in the top 10 with 4 universities, including Beijing University (ranked 1st), Fudan University (ranked 5th), Tsinghua University (ranked 7th), Zhejiang University (ranked 8th).

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) has 3 schools in the top 10, including the University of Hong Kong (ranked 2nd), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK, ranked 6th), and City University of Hong Kong (CityU, ranked 10th).

Singapore has two schools in the top 10, including the National University of Singapore (ranked 3rd) and Nanyang Technological University (ranked 4th).

Also in the top 10 is a South Korean university, Yonsei University. South Korea is also home to six universities in the regional top 20, the most of any country or territory.

Meanwhile, Indonesia made a huge leap forward, adding 30 new universities to the list. The University of Indonesia also climbed to 46th place in the rankings.

In Japan, the country's top university - the University of Tokyo, is the most highly regarded in Asia by academics and international employers.

The QS Asia University Rankings 2025 includes 984 universities from 29 countries and territories. The criteria used for evaluation include: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, international research network; citation index per article, internationality... with a ratio of 5-30%, of which the highest is academic reputation.

The criteria used by QS World University Rankings to rank universities include: research results (rate of published and cited scientific articles, academic reputation of the school), learning experience (ratio of students and lecturers in each faculty, number of PhDs in the teaching staff), level of international links (international research collaboration activities, number of international exchange students per year, number of foreign lecturers), rate of students having jobs after graduation...

The QS World University Rankings are considered the most prestigious in the world, alongside the rankings published by Times Higher Education and Shanghai Ranking.
