Bac Khe hydroelectric dam broke, Lang Son urgently came up with a response plan

On the afternoon of October 7, confirming with reporters, Mr. Dinh Ky Giang - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lang Son province said that due to prolonged heavy rain, the water flowed quickly and strongly, causing the Bac Khe hydroelectric dam (Tan Tien commune) to break.

Mr. Giang said that the Bac Khe hydroelectric dam broke at 1:00 p.m. the same day.

The project has a capacity of 2.4 MW, located in Tan Tien commune, Lang Son province, on Bac Khe river (a small branch of Ky Cung river) with a reservoir capacity of about 4 million cubic meters of water.

According to the leader, the dam break is likely to directly affect the downstream area, especially That Khe and De Tham communes.

Currently, the authorities have urgently notified the relevant communes and are implementing response and evacuation plans to ensure the safety of people in downstream areas.

The leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade also said that all parties are closely monitoring developments and deploying forces on the spot, while advising people not to spread unverified information to avoid causing panic in the community.

Previously, according to information from the Lang Son Province Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the low pressure area (weakened from storm No. 11) combined with high-altitude wind convergence, from early morning to the night of October 7, areas in Lang Son province had heavy rain, some places had very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50-120mm, locally over 200mm of rain in some places.

Lang Son province has also issued an emergency flood notice on the Trung River. Currently, the flood level on the Trung River is rising rapidly.

At 8:00 a.m. on October 7, the water level at Huu Lung hydrological station was 19.93m, 93cm above alert level 3.

In the next 6-12 hours, flood on Trung River will continue to rise rapidly and fluctuate above alert level 3. Bac Giang River will rise rapidly above alert level 3 and peak on the afternoon of October 7.

Water levels on some other rivers in Lang Son province are as follows: Ky Cung River at Lang Son hydrological station is 251.79m, 21cm below alarm level 1; on Bac Giang River at Van Mich hydrological station is 190.81m, 81cm above alarm level 3.
