Determined to guard the fire and protect the forest
Cat Ba National Park has an area of 17,362 hectares with a diverse forest, sea and island ecosystem with 362 animal species, 1,590 plant species, many of which are rare. The risk of forest fires is always latent, especially in planted forests located close to residential areas, where people's activities such as burning garbage and making open fires take place.
According to Deputy Director of Cat Ba National Park Pham Van Phuc, implementing the "four on-site" motto in forest fire prevention and fighting, entering the dry season of 2025, 100% of the ranger force at Cat Ba National Park stations will patrol, control, and prevent the risk of forest fires in the entire management area.
In high-risk areas, the rangers have increased the frequency of patrols and surveillance in pine forests, protective forests and residential areas near the forests, promptly detecting and preventing fire risks from the beginning with the motto of fire prevention is better than fire fighting. Since the beginning of 2025, the rangers of Cat Ba National Park have coordinated to organize nearly 2,000 patrols and inspections of natural forests, planted forests and mangrove forests.
To prepare for emergency fire situations, forest fire prevention and fighting drills are also organized regularly and continuously every year by Cat Ba National Park in coordination with Cat Hai special zone and communities on Cat Ba island.

Propaganda for change, raising awareness
Director of Cat Ba National Park Nguyen Van Thiu shared that Cat Ba National Park is located on the large island of Cat Ba archipelago, and is also the core area of Cat Ba archipelago Biosphere Reserve and Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago World Natural Heritage. This is a place with a rich and diverse ecosystem, preserving many rare and endemic species of flora and fauna, including the Cat Ba langur - an extremely endangered and rare species.
Due to the complex terrain of the area, surrounded mainly by sea surface and rugged limestone mountains, it causes many difficulties for the patrolling work of forest rangers. Therefore, along with increasing forest patrols, Cat Ba National Park continues to promote scientific research with topics of high conservation and application, strengthen international cooperation and attract investment in forest protection and biodiversity.
Up to now, information technology and digital transformation have been applied in forest management and protection, gradually improving the efficiency of forest management and protection. FRMS Mobile 4.0 software is being effectively used by forest rangers to carry out the process of measuring flora and fauna in the field and updating forest resource developments, helping to be more proactive in monitoring and management.

In addition to implementing the "four on-the-spot" motto in forest fire prevention and fighting, Cat Ba National Park continues to promote coordination with the Forest Protection Department of Region 1 in forest management, forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting, and dissemination of forestry laws.
The park has deployed forces to guide, propagate and strictly prohibit tourists from organizing campfires and cooking activities near planted forests or primary forests. The park's rangers coordinate with functional forces and local authorities to propagate to people not to light fires, smoke near forest areas or leave fires outside without completely extinguishing them.
In particular, step up propaganda for people living near strictly protected areas not to burn votive paper at temples and shrines on full moon and new moon days, especially the upcoming Binh Ngo New Year 2026.
In addition to focusing on propaganda work to raise people's awareness and responsibility in protecting forest resources, the Garden continues to coordinate with local authorities to deploy and replicate models to help buffer zone communities develop their economies to change their livelihoods such as community tourism, beekeeping, goat farming, clean vegetable growing, mangrove planting combined with aquaculture, medicinal plant growing, etc. Thereby gradually reducing dependence on forest exploitation, contributing to the conservation and promotion of the value of World Natural Heritage.
Thanks to good patrolling, control and propaganda work, there have been no large-scale forest fires affecting natural resources in Cat Ba National Park in 2025.
