Nui Chua National Park releases more than 1,300 baby turtles into the sea

Since April, Nui Chua National Park, part of Nui Chua World Biosphere Reserve, Vinh Hai Commune, Khanh Hoa Province, has rescued and released more than 1,300 baby turtles back into the ocean. This is one of the important efforts to preserve rare sea turtles in Vietnam.

In some beach areas of Nui Chua National Park, since April, 57 mother turtles have been recorded coming ashore to lay their nests, of which 30 have successfully laid their nests. Currently, 16 nests have hatched with 1,631 eggs, while 14 nests that have not yet hatched are still being monitored.

The sea turtle conservation teams of the Park and volunteers have successfully rescued and released 1,301 baby turtles safely back into the sea. These sea turtles are green turtles, an endangered species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).  

According to Mr. Pham Anh Dung, Nui Chua National Park Management Board, the unit is promoting sea turtle conservation work, sending staff and volunteers to patrol the nesting area to rescue and release baby turtles back to the sea, and at the same time mobilizing fishermen to participate in protection. He emphasized: "We also organize beach cleaning to create the best conditions for mother turtles to come to the nesting area."

Turtles crawl out to sea.

Nui Chua National Park is currently one of the few mainland areas in Vietnam that still records a population of sea turtles including green turtles, hawksbill turtles, and hawksbill turtles, of which green turtles come to breed every year. The turtle laying season usually lasts from April to November. This year, the rainy season came early, the humidity on the sandbanks was suitable, so the number of mother turtles laying eggs and the number of baby turtles released into the sea were recorded the highest in recent years.

From 2014 to early October 2025, Nui Chua National Park recorded 585 mother turtles coming to the nesting grounds, 203 successful nests, and 12,749 baby turtles rescued and released back into the sea. Nui Chua National Park is promoting the synchronous implementation of many plans and solutions to effectively and sustainably protect sea turtle populations and their habitats, along with other endangered and rare aquatic species.
