Support to school

At Vo Chi Cong Primary and Secondary School (Que Phuoc Commune), this school year there are 173 students at both levels, distributed at 3 school locations in Phu Gia and Dong An villages, with a scale of 12 classes. From the beginning of August, the staff and teachers have focused on cleaning the school, checking the facilities, and fully preparing books and school supplies so that all students have the conditions to enter the new school year.

Mr. Tran Dinh Son, the school's principal, said: "We pay special attention to students in difficult circumstances, trying to ensure that no student lacks books and equipment when coming to class. In addition, each grade level has developed a specific teaching plan, ready for the new program."

Over the years, the school's facilities have been gradually invested in, basically meeting the needs of teaching and learning. However, with 3 scattered schools, students' travel is still difficult, especially during the rainy season. Some orphans and children from poor families need sharing to continue going to class. Thanks to the cooperation of organizations and individuals, many gifts and scholarships have been given to poor students.

A typical example is Doan Nguyen Gia Tran, a 4B student, orphaned by both parents, currently living with her grandmother and receiving a scholarship from the program “Waves and computers for children” along with many practical gifts at the beginning of this new school year. Gia Tran emotionally shared: “I am very happy to receive the support. This is the motivation for me to try to study better, to become a useful person in the future.”

According to Mr. Phan Thanh Thanh, Vice Chairman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, there are currently 6 schools in the area from kindergarten to junior high school. To prepare for the new school year, the schools have completed facilities, desks and chairs, restrooms, electricity and water systems; at the same time, focusing on environmental sanitation and school safety.

At preschool level, the commune continues to increase the rate of children attending class, focusing on the quality of boarding and ensuring food hygiene and safety in the kitchen.

For secondary schools, schools have developed a plan to teach 2 sessions/day from the 2025-2026 school year. “In addition, relevant departments and offices of the commune coordinate with the school to promptly remove difficulties in facilities, equipment and staff, creating the most favorable conditions for teaching and learning,” Mr. Thanh emphasized.

Overcoming difficulties

In Nong Son commune, schools are also making efforts to prepare for the new school year in difficult conditions. Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School currently has 646 students, divided into 17 classes. The school has 18 rooms, of which only 10 are classrooms and 6 are subject rooms. If teaching 2 sessions/day as required by the 2018 General Education Program, the school is still short of 8 rooms, especially 2 IT rooms and 2 Foreign Language rooms. Equipment for the new program has not been fully provided yet.

Mr. Ho Van Nhan, the school’s principal, said that the school is currently short of 3 staffing levels (2 Math teachers and 1 History teacher). To ensure teaching, the school must contract more teachers and arrange for teachers to teach cross-subjects or teach different subjects in some subjects. “The facilities are degraded and there are not enough desks and chairs, so we are forced to use old desks and chairs, which somewhat affects the students’ learning,” Mr. Nhan said.

Meanwhile, Pham Phu Thu Primary School has 276 students and 12 classes. The school basically has enough classrooms and conditions to organize 2 sessions per day.

“To prepare for the new school year, we have repaired degraded items, purchased additional equipment, cleaned classrooms and promptly contracted missing teachers. Although there are still difficulties in the multi-purpose room area, the school is determined to overcome them to improve the quality of teaching and learning,” said teacher Nguyen Dinh Tung, Principal of Pham Phu Thu Primary School.

According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Nong Son Commune People's Committee, the whole commune currently has 7 schools with 105 classes and 2,911 students. Of which, the primary level has basically met the requirements for classrooms, but at the secondary level, the situation is still challenging. Nguyen Duy Hieu Secondary School only has 12 classrooms, and must renovate the subject rooms to supplement; Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School is short of 8 classrooms.

“To overcome this, the schools have proactively contracted 32 teachers with the right expertise, and mobilized support from philanthropists, staff, teachers and employees to help disadvantaged students. The schools have also made the most of the equipment they have provided, improved old tools and used their own budget to purchase more,” said Mr. Tuan.
