Western Amateur 2025: Nguyen Anh Minh enters top 5, Le Khanh Hung stops

At Skokie Country Club (Illinois, USA), Nguyen Anh Minh opened with an impressive round of 67 (-3), before continuing to maintain his steady form with 68 (-2) in the second round.

Notably, in the second round, Anh Minh had a solid performance with 8 consecutive pars in the first 9 holes. In the next 9 holes, Anh Minh scored 4 birdies, interspersed with 2 bogeys.

The result (-5) after 2 rounds helped Anh Minh enter the top 5 and open up a great opportunity to enter the top 16 after 72 holes, thereby winning the right to participate in the direct competition round.

Anh Minh's confidence and courage at this year's Western Amateur continues his impressive form recently, especially his runner-up finish at the US Junior Amateur 2025, a tournament where he played bravely against the world's top young talents.

Meanwhile, Le Khanh Hung, a teammate born in 2007, had a significant improvement in round 2 when he scored 5 birdies, finishing with 70 strokes (even par). However, the total score (+10) after 36 holes prevented Khanh Hung from passing the cut and stopping at the tournament.

This year’s Western Amateur cut-off point is set at even par, leaving only Anh Minh to continue his fight in the upcoming rounds. With his steady form and rising confidence, Anh Minh is expected to advance further into the match-up round, which will feature the world’s best amateur golfers.

The 2025 Western Amateur takes place from July 29 to August 2 at Skokie Country Club (Illinois, USA), bringing together 156 young golf talents from around the world. After two rounds of 18-hole stroke play, the 44 golfers with the best scores and ties will pass the first cut round, to continue to compete in 36 holes of stroke play and the second cut. The 16 names with the best results will enter the knockout round to compete for the championship.
