Identifying 9 African teams that have qualified for the 2026 World Cup

There were no surprises in this World Cup qualifying round, as powerful teams like Senegal and Ivory Coast both won, thereby officially taking the top spot in the group.

At home, star Sadio Mane shone as Senegal crushed Mauritania 4-0, thereby maintaining the top spot in Group B with 24 points. Next to them is the Republic of Congo with 22 points.

In Group F, Ivory Coast also easily beat Kenya 3-0, thereby ending the first round with 26 points, exactly 1 point more than Gabon.

Ivory Coast and Senegal were the last African teams to secure tickets - out of a total of nine official tickets allocated to the "black continent" by FIFA.

Previously, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde and South Africa won tickets.

Thus, the 9 official tickets to the World Cup for Africa - through the top 9 positions in phase 1 - have confirmed their owners.

The 4 second-placed representatives with good results will continue to enter phase 2, competing for tickets to the intercontinental play-off round.

The four teams are Gabon, Congo, Cameroon and Nigeria. They will play a knockout match in November to find the winner, who will enter the intercontinental play-off round.

There will be 6 representative teams from the continents participating in the intercontinental play-off round (taking place early next year), choosing the owners of the last 2 tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
