Determine the schedule of the 2025 MMA LION Championship season

The Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) announced the schedule for two important tournaments in 2025. Accordingly, the 2025 LION Championship season will start on April 12. The 2025 National MMA Club Cup will take place from June 23 to June 29 in Hanoi .

LION Championship - professional MMA tournament - in 2025 has 9 events spread from April to December. Hanoi is the host city with the most (6 times). The remaining events take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa) and Phu Quoc ( Kien Giang ).

The 2025 LION Championship season promises to be more exciting than previous years with the appearance of new competition formats. In addition to traditional MMA, fighters will have more competition in standing combat, ground combat, duels and rotations.

The singles fighting formats of striking and ground fighting give fighters more options depending on their strengths, in addition to the arena that tests comprehensive skills, which is traditional MMA. Athletes specializing in traditional martial arts, Muay Thai, Sanshou, boxing, karate... are suitable for standing fighting. Meanwhile, ground fighting is for fighters with strengths in wrestling and judo.

Duo and gauntlet formats emphasize team tactics. These matches simulate street fighting situations, where fighters need to consider many factors around them, not just focus on directly comparing skills with their opponents.

The format is 2 on 2 at the same time. When a fighter is knocked out or loses, a 2 on 1 situation occurs.

For the rotation format, each team arranges 3 fighters in the order of vanguard, center, and general to compete with the opponent. When a fighter is knocked out, loses, or is unanimously defeated, the next teammate will compete. The two teams will determine the winner when one side has no fighters left.

The achievements of the fighters at the two important tournaments are also the basis for the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation to select athletes to participate in the 33rd SEA Games and the 20th ASIAD. This is a historic milestone for MMA when this sport was included in the competition program of an international sports festival for the first time.
