Initial results
In the fish breeding area of Mr. Ha Van Chung in Bac Nha Trang ward, there are dozens of fish tanks. Mr. Chung said that he has been involved in the aquaculture breeding business for nearly 20 years. Initially, he worked for other fish breeding households, then opened his own business, specializing in breeding, supplying cobia, grouper, barramundi and pompano for nearly 10 years. He participated in the project with 57 breeding tanks, 22 pairs of qualified parent fish. After many months of applying the process, the model has so far achieved very positive results. Parent fish are raised in the sea, eggs are collected for hatching. Through calculations, the growth and loss indicators of the fish are all within the allowable range. After 50 - 60 days of breeding, the fish reach the size for sale (about 5cm/fish). With 22 pairs of parents, each year, Mr. Chung collects about 1.5 million fish. With an average selling price of about 3,500 VND/head, after deducting expenses, he earned about 1 billion VND.

Not only in terms of economic efficiency, by participating in the model, fishermen master the process, apply scientific and technical advances and standardize the process of raising pomfret. “Along with their own experience, applying scientific processes has brought about better results. In particular, the project has perfected the fish feeding process - a stage that determines the success or failure of the batch of fish raised,” Mr. Chung affirmed.
Mr. Le Van Tuan - technical officer supporting the project said, one of the highlights of the project is the timely and complete supply of breeds, materials and equipment to households. The support material system includes feed for broodstock (squid, trash fish), hormones (HCG, LRHa), zooplankton, DHA Protein Selco, industrial feed for fry, along with water treatment chemicals and environmental test kits. The distribution process is carried out in many batches, according to the seasonal schedule. All materials ensure quality standards, creating an important foundation for operating the model properly.
Proactive source of quality seeds
Not only bringing initial effectiveness, the yellowfin pompano raised from the model also meet the conditions to be granted a "birth certificate" and traceability. This is a requirement, almost mandatory in current regulations, and is also a problem that many breeding facilities have not achieved. "All parent fish, the breeding process until the fry are sold are all proven by a complete process. Each batch of fish sold is tested by a specialized agency for growth indicators, disease safety... before reaching the farmers", Mr. Ha Van Chung emphasized.
Engineer Tang Thi Thao - North Central Aquaculture Research Institute, project manager, said that the model contributes to proactively solving the problem of quality seed sources, reducing dependence on the free market, and limiting disease risks. Proactively providing disease-free seed also creates conditions for aquaculture households to confidently invest in expanding production scale, creating more jobs, increasing income and protecting natural resources. In the coming time, the process will continue to be perfected, including close linkage between research, seed production and commercial farming, moving towards building a closed value chain for yellowfin pomfret - a marine fish with great export potential. Through the results of the model, the institute has organized training courses to equip farmers with knowledge on breeding and breeding techniques for yellowfin pomfret. In 2025, the model will be replicated for fishermen and a conference will be held for fishermen, scientists and businesses to exchange, discuss and orientate the connection and coordination to develop the process of raising pompano fish from the stage of providing breeds, raising and supplying to the market in the coming time.
It can be seen that the industrial scale yellowfin pompano seed production model has proven its feasibility and effectiveness. Output exceeded the plan, quality was guaranteed, profits were high, and the impact was widespread. This is a practical step, in line with the orientation of promoting marine farming and protecting aquatic resources, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's marine farming industry.
