Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses

This is a vivid demonstration of the precious tradition of "helping each other" of our nation, with special significance, contributing to bringing shelter to meritorious people, the poor, the disadvantaged... in the district.

Help many difficult situations

After a traffic accident, Mr. Hoang Anh Dung (living in Hoa Thanh hamlet, Ngoc Dinh commune) lost his ability to work and could only do light work to earn money to live and raise his children. His income was not much so he did not dare to think about having money to repair his house which was not enough to protect him from the rain and sun.

In late 2024, he was given a charity house by the local government and donors. Although he has been in the new house for a few months, he is still emotional and cannot believe that his dream has come true.

Mr. Hoang Anh Dung expressed: “Previously, my family's house was very shabby and makeshift, had to be covered with tarpaulin in the dry season, and often leaked in the rainy season. Now, thanks to the help of the local government and benefactors, my family has the house we have today. I am very happy and grateful to the local government and benefactors. This is the motivation for me to strive to escape poverty and take care of my children's education.”

Localities in the district have mobilized organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and religious establishments in the area to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses through the construction of charity houses, gratitude houses, and red cross houses, thereby contributing to repair and bring warmth to those in difficult circumstances.

Similarly, Mr. Dieu Minh (residing in Hamlet 1, La Nga Commune) is raising his child in Grade 3 alone. He works for hire, mainly seasonal jobs such as picking mangoes, construction worker... to earn money to raise his child and make ends meet. He is living in a makeshift house, not enough to protect him from the rain and sun, a wooden house, roofed with corrugated iron and covered with tarpaulin.

Understanding the difficult situation of Mr. Dieu Minh, benefactors and local authorities supported him with 80 million VND to build a new solid house for his family. Mr. Minh is one of the ethnic minority households with housing difficulties that received support to build a house in the area.

Mr. Dieu Minh shared: “I am very happy to be supported to build a house. My income is only enough to get by, I never dared to dream of having a house like this. I am truly happy and grateful to the local government and sponsors for helping my father and I have a solid house that we no longer have to worry about rain or shine. I will try to preserve it and work harder.”

Dinh Quan District Party Committee has decided to consolidate and perfect the Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the district (referred to as the Steering Committee). The Steering Committee consists of 16 members with Dinh Quan District Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Cao Cuong as the Head of the Steering Committee.

Replicating the model

Removing temporary and dilapidated houses has become a widespread movement. This meaningful and humane work not only contributes to improving people's lives, but also motivates us to further promote the tradition of mutual love and support, and to build and strengthen the great national unity bloc.

According to the People's Committee of Dinh Quan district, the locality has strengthened propaganda, calling on and mobilizing agencies, units, businesses, organizations and individuals to actively support the Movement to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in the district. In particular, the People's Committee of the district assigned relevant departments and offices to coordinate with the People's Committees of communes and towns in the area to regularly review and count the number and need for housing support for people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs, poor households, near-poor households, and people in difficult circumstances according to regulations. From there, advise on developing plans, proposing measures and solutions to effectively implement the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.

In 2024 alone, Dinh Quan district built and repaired 125 charity houses with a total value of 13.9 billion VND. Taking care of housing for the people has always been a concern of the Party Committees and local authorities in the district and is identified as a key task in ensuring social security and sustainable poverty reduction.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Dinh Commune, Nguyen Manh Khoe, shared that in recent times, the locality has diversified forms of support, mobilized, and called on benefactors to join hands in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. In addition, the locality has closely reviewed and compiled statistics through mass organizations in hamlets, especially in remote areas. Thereby, helping the Steering Committee on Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses of the commune grasp the number and make a list of cases that need to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, ensuring the exact number of people who need support in the area. At the same time, the locality will continue to call for resources to build and repair more new, spacious and solid houses, contributing to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses so that people's lives can be improved in the coming time.
