Using leaves to apply or steam the eyes to treat pink eye is ineffective and can easily damage the eyes; not to mention some fungi and bacteria in the leaves can penetrate through corneal scratches and cause corneal ulcers.

Faced with the increasing epidemic of pink eye in Hanoi and many other provinces, a representative of Bach Mai Hospital said that recently the hospital has received treatment for a number of cases with complications due to the use of leaves to apply or steam the eyes, causing corneal ulcers, even leaving corneal scars causing permanent blurred vision. In addition, some cases of pink eye but did not go to the hospital early, arbitrarily bought eye drops to treat, leading to serious complications, greatly affecting vision.

When suffering from pink eye, patients should immediately go to specialized medical facilities for timely treatment.

According to Dr. Phung Thi Thuy Hang, Deputy Head of the Ophthalmology Department, Bach Mai Hospital, people with pink eye often have symptoms such as: itchy eyes, red eyes, glare, photophobia, watery eyes and a lot of eye discharge. To treat pink eye, when having the above symptoms, patients should go to ophthalmology facilities for examination to be diagnosed and advised on appropriate treatment methods.

In particular, absolutely do not use leaves to apply or steam the eyes because they have little effect and can cause eye damage such as: burns due to heat or essential oils. Moreover, some fungi and bacteria in leaves can penetrate through corneal scratches causing corneal ulcers, which are very difficult to treat, the sequelae are corneal scars causing permanent blurred vision, even some severe cases have to remove the eye.

Pink eye if not treated properly can cause complications.

Regarding the use of eye drops, doctors recommend not to buy them yourself, not to use one bottle of eye drops for many people, and not to use homemade saline solution for eye drops because it is not sterile.
