Possessing hundreds of years old ancient houses, Lo Lo Chai village is located right at the foot of Dragon Mountain and only about 1km from Lung Cu Flagpole (in Dong Van commune, Tuyen Quang province), as beautiful as a fairy tale village in the northernmost land of the Fatherland.

The road leading into the village is quite small and gently sloping. Lo Lo Chai appears with three-room, tiled houses that are hundreds of years old.

Discovering Lo Lo Chai is discovering the unique cultural colors of this land. With 90% of the population being Lo Lo people, the village has almost completely preserved the unique cultural features of the Lo Lo people, from the architecture of the rammed earth houses, traditional crafts such as embroidery, carpentry... to traditional festivals such as: worshiping the Forest God, celebrating the new rice, celebrating the new house and folk dances.

The Lo Lo people's rammed earth houses are mainly built with clay and loam, each wall is 50-60 cm thick, warm in winter and cool in summer, so they are also called "two-season" houses.

The foundation of the house is reinforced with cobblestones, wooden molds are built, the walls are tightly packed with earth, and then the roof is covered with yin-yang tiles. The houses of the Lo Lo people have the typical features and sophisticated beauty in the architecture and house-building techniques of the ethnic minorities in the mountains.

Currently, Lo Lo Chai village still has 37 rammed earth houses with intact architecture that are over a hundred years old.

Coming to Lo Lo Chai village, visitors will admire the green mustard fields right in front of the Lo Lo ethnic people's houses, the brown-walled roofs of houses, and behind the stone fences are the porches full of corn drying at the beginning of the season.

Flowers bloom here all year round, but the most beautiful village scenery is still in the spring, with peach, plum, pear, and wild chrysanthemum flowers... showing off their brilliant colors.

The fairy tale village of Lo Lo Chai is beautiful in every season. In summer, the bright yellow sunlight shines on the green stone fences mixed with the bright yellow walls of the rammed earth houses with dark brown yin-yang tiled roofs.

If you come here during Lunar New Year, you will have the opportunity to experience a special New Year's Eve of the Lo Lo people, going out to have fun with everyone and wishing for good luck together.

At the moment of New Year's Eve, the Lo Lo Hoa people hear the first rooster crow in the village to calculate the moment of transition between the old year and the new year. During the whole New Year's Eve, the villagers usually do not sleep but sit by the fire watching the pot of banh chung, sipping wine, chatting and going to each other's houses to "steal fortune" (just a mustard green, a dry corn stalk or a piece of firewood...) when the new year comes.

Visitors should not forget to sip a cup of hot corn wine with a plate of roasted peanuts or enjoy every drop of coffee at the headland of the Fatherland, listening to the locals tell about the unique customs in Lo Lo Chai.

Coming to the fairy tale village, visitors can try on traditional costumes, elaborate brocade dresses, many colors sewn and embroidered by the skillful hands of Lo Lo women. The motifs on each costume are very close to daily life such as bird feet, bird eyes, buckwheat flowers, terraced fields... Besides, visitors can also try their hand at traditional musical instruments such as playing drums and blowing trumpets.

If you have the opportunity to visit the Lo Lo Chai people’s house, you will be warmly invited to have a cup of wild tea, a pipe of tobacco or a cup of fragrant Ha Giang corn wine. If possible, stay overnight to better understand the daily life of the people here.

Early in the morning, step out of the door and enjoy the fresh natural scenery, sit on the porch and watch the old people pondering or the children playing around, visitors will feel the peaceful life.

As a village located at the northernmost point of the country, from any location in Lo Lo Chai, you can see Lung Cu flagpole on top of Long Son mountain in the distance, hidden among the clouds.

Since Lo Lo Chai was recognized as a Cultural Tourism Village in early 2022 (according to Decision No. 2480/QD-UBND of the former Ha Giang province (now Tuyen Quang province), households in the village have renovated and added additional closed toilets, convenient for tourists to eat, rest and live without affecting the external architecture and overall landscape.

Up to now, the government and people have worked together to make tourism more professional and systematic, attracting more and more tourists to explore and experience.

On average, each month, this small village welcomes about 1,000 tourists to stay and visit. Especially at the end of the year, coinciding with the buckwheat flower season, homestays are always fully booked, proving the attractiveness and tourism potential of Lo Lo Chai./.
