The coastal city of Tianjin, one of China's top tourist destinations , is notable for its blend of Western and ancient Chinese architecture.
Located 125 km north of Beijing, Tianjin is only a 30-minute high-speed train ride away. The Culture Trip travel magazine describes Tianjin as a city that attracts visitors thanks to its rich architectural, cultural and culinary heritage. Here are 10 suggestions from The Culture Trip about some of the highlights of this port city, where the 14th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) Pioneers Meeting will take place from June 25-28.
The Tientsin Eye Ferris Wheel
The project is built above the Yongle Bridge over the Haihe River. This is considered one of the modern symbols of Tianjin city. The giant wheel is 120 m high, has 48 passenger compartments, each compartment can hold 8 people. The entrance ticket is about 70 yuan (228,000 VND) for a 30-minute ride. Visitors should experience the Ferris wheel at sunset or in the evening. Next to the Ferris wheel in the evening, there is often a fireworks display, visitors sitting in the cabin can observe the whole city immersed in colorful neon lights.

Italian Quarter
This is the old Italian Concession area, surrounded by four streets, located in Hebei District, Tianjin. Currently, this area has more than 200 European-style buildings of the early 20th century that are preserved intact. There are shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Coming here in the evening, visitors can go shopping and then dine at Italian restaurants.
The Great Wall of China at Huangya Pass
The section of the wall in the mountainous area of Jizhou County is part of the Great Wall heritage, about 30 kilometers from the center of Tianjin City. It was built 1,400 years ago during the Northern Qi Dynasty, and was later reinforced with brick walls during the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644. The Huangya Pass Great Wall is 42 kilometers long, connecting Malanguan Pass in Hebei to the east and Zong Pass in Beijing to the west, with 52 watchtowers and 14 beacon towers. From 1984 to 1987, more than 3,000 meters of wall and 20 watchtowers were restored, making it the longest section of the Great Wall restoration project in China.

Tianjin Old Street
This is a pedestrian street located on the banks of the Hai River, full of colorful lanterns. The ancient houses here all date back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Around the street are many restaurants, eateries, souvenir shops, and local handicrafts. Visitors can visit Thien Hau Pagoda, built in the 14th century, where merchants used to come to pray for good luck and a safe boat trip. The pagoda is now the Tianjin Folk Customs Museum, displaying many folk handicrafts and relics from ancient times.
Ceramic villa
Another special place that cannot be missed in the tour of Tianjin city is the ceramic villa of collector Zhang Lianzhi, which has been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. The villa is over 100 years old, located in Hoa Binh district, with an area of 3,000 square meters, decorated with 400 million pieces of ancient ceramics, 16,000 pieces of porcelain, 5,000 ancient vases, 4,000 ancient bowls and plates, more than 20 tons of crystal and agate and 300 white marble carvings.
The five-story French-style villa was once the residence of the finance minister during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). In 1949, it was used as a bank branch. After that, the villa was abandoned for many years. In 2003, Mr. Zhang Lianzhi spent 160,000 USD to buy it and spent 4 years transforming it into a unique castle, decorated with ceramic pieces dating back to the Tang and Qing dynasties.

Ban Son Mountain
Visitors can experience trekking at Panshan Mountain, located in Jizhou County, 110 km from Tianshan City and 88 km from Beijing. The mountain, known as "the number one mountain in eastern Beijing", was once listed among China's top 15 tourist destinations.
The nature on Ban Son is diverse with hundreds of plant species and many majestic cliffs. The mountain consists of five peaks, the main peak of which is the Moon Mountain, 864 m above sea level. On the top is a stupa that is said to contain the tooth of Buddha. Ban Son Mountain is also a famous historical site when Emperor Qianlong visited it 30 times and wrote 1,336 poems praising the beauty of this mountain.
Tianjin Library
Binhai Library is a tourist attraction in Binhai Cultural Center, Tianjin City. With its futuristic architectural design, the 33,700 square meter, five-story library has attracted a large number of visitors since its opening in 2017. The eye-shaped structure has been dubbed "the most beautiful library in China".
What makes this library famous are its giant "book mountains". Hundreds of bookshelves stretch out under a skylight. These bookshelves also serve as stairs and seating.

St. Joseph's Cathedral
St Joseph Cathedral, located in Heping District, is the largest Romanesque structure in Tianjin and was built in 1916. Designed by French architect and missionary Paul-Marie Dumond, the structure covers an area of nearly 1,900 square meters and can accommodate about 1,500 people at a time. St Joseph Cathedral has three giant domes up to 45 meters high, the surface is covered with green copper panels.
Tianjin Amusement Park
This is the largest amusement park and recreation area in Tianjin, consisting of nine artificial islands and three lakes. Surrounded by paths, pagodas and gardens, it is a popular summer destination for families with children.
Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park
This entertainment complex is located in a 17-story, 275-meter-long Soviet-era aircraft carrier. The complex includes an amusement park, a hotel, a shopping center. The ship also has a stage area where circus and dance performances are held.
