13:00 today (June 15), opening the water discharge gate of Son La reservoir, Tuyen Quang

Son La Hydropower Reservoir will open 1 bottom spillway gate at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon (June 15).

Monitoring data shows that at 7:00 a.m. on June 15, 2024, the upstream water level of Son La Lake was at 209.15 m, the inflow to the lake was 2,168 m3/s, and the discharge was 2,732 m3/s (running the generator).

The upstream water level of Tuyen Quang Lake is at elevation 118.57m, the inflow to the lake is 1,861m3/s, the discharge is 1,220m3/s (including the flow through 1 bottom spillway and running the generator).

Implementing the inter-reservoir operation process on the Red River basin in Decision No. 740/QD-TTg dated June 17, 2019 of the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister's direction in Official Dispatch No. 57/CD-TTg dated June 10, 2024, on the morning of June 15, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control sent a dispatch to the Director of Son La Hydropower Company and the Director of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company.

Accordingly, to gradually bring the upstream water level of the reservoirs back to the highest water level before the flood as prescribed, the National Steering Committee requested the Director of Son La Hydropower Company to open 1 bottom spillway gate of Son La reservoir at 1:00 p.m. on June 15, 2024. The Director of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Company opened 1 bottom spillway gate of Tuyen Quang reservoir at 1:00 p.m. on June 15, 2024 (a total of 2 bottom spillways).

The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control also requested the Son La and Tuyen Quang Hydropower Companies to continue to closely monitor the developments of floods and rains, safety of works, flow to the reservoir, water levels upstream and downstream of the reservoir; promptly report to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and relevant agencies as prescribed.
