On the evening of September 23, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU) solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The event was attended by about 450 guests, including First Vice President of the Belgian Senate Andries Gryffroy, President of the Brussels Regional Parliament Bertin Mampka, President of the Walloon Parliament Willy Borsus, Chief of the Cabinet of the King of Belgium Vincent Houssiau, Secretary General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Theodora Gentzis, President of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament Bernd Lange; Director General for Southeast Asia of the European External Action Service Leila Fernández Stembridge, along with many officials from the Royal, government and federal and regional parliaments of Belgium, officials of EU agencies and parliaments, Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires and embassy staff of various countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Brussels, representatives of businesses, scholars and journalists of Belgium and the EU.
On the Vietnamese side, all staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium/EU, representatives of agencies, organizations, businesses, overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese students in Belgium and Luxembourg attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao reviewed the country's important development achievements over the past 80 years in the fields of politics, economics, culture - society and foreign affairs. This is the result of the efforts, solidarity and persistent dedication of the Vietnamese people over many generations under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
Vietnam affirms that it will persevere on the path of comprehensive international integration, green and sustainable development, and be an active, proactive, and responsible member of the international community, contributing to peace , stability, and common development.
Regarding relations with partners, 2025 marks 35 years of Vietnam-EU relations and 5 years of implementing the EVFTA, expanding cooperation in trade, science and technology, digital economy, climate change response, culture - tourism and defense - security.
Vietnam-Belgium relations continue to develop strongly, highlighted by the State visit of the King and Queen of Belgium in April 2025, opening up new potential for cooperation in high technology, logistics, healthcare, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.
With Luxembourg, the two sides effectively implemented the Green Finance Partnership, aiming to expand to other potential fields in the coming time.
Speaking at the ceremony, guests congratulated the great achievements that Vietnam has made over the past 80 years, especially in the process of innovation, integration and sustainable development.

Secretary General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Theodora Gentzis shared her impression of Vietnam's dynamic development and increasingly important role in the Asia-Pacific region as well as in the international arena and affirmed that Belgium will continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in areas of mutual interest. Emphasizing that Vietnam is an important partner of Belgium in Southeast Asia, Ms. Theodora Gentzis expressed her hope that the two sides will continue to effectively implement bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms.

According to Chairman of the European Parliament's International Trade Committee Bernd Lange, in the context of the increasingly complicated international and regional situation, Vietnam and the EU need to get closer and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.
Mr. Bernd Lange affirmed that the EVFTA has been bringing many practical benefits to both sides, serving as a model of cooperation between the EU and a developing country, and expressed his hope that Vietnam and the EU will continue to exploit the full potential of economic and trade cooperation, towards sustainable and inclusive development.

First Vice President of the Belgian Senate Andries Gryffroy appreciated the achievements in parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, and emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting understanding and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam, Belgium and the EU.
European External Action Service (EEAS) Representative Leila Fernández Stembridge acknowledged Vietnam's active and responsible role in regional and global issues, and expressed her belief that the cooperation between the EU and Vietnam will continue to develop strongly in the coming time.

The ceremony took place in a friendly and cozy atmosphere with a special traditional art program performed by artists from the Vietnam National Music and Dance Theater, along with dishes imbued with Vietnamese culinary identity, leaving many good impressions in the hearts of international friends in Belgium.
