According to Mr. Dang Quoc Thang, Head of Drone Group (CropLife Vietnam), drones have been applied in many countries and continents from the US, Latin America, Asia to Africa. In Vietnam, drones appeared from 2017-2018 and are now being used quite widely.
Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Huynh Tan Dat assessed that drones help spray pesticides quickly, evenly, and accurately, while also supporting water-saving irrigation and monitoring crops in remote areas. One device can serve 2,000-3,000 hectares of rice, or 500-600 hectares of fruit trees.
Participating in the discussion, Mr. Phan Thanh Trung, business director of a company specializing in drones, said that the Vietnamese agricultural drone market has grown very rapidly in the past 3 years. By early 2025, the number of agricultural drones in Vietnam had exceeded 6,000.
Currently, 70% of drones are concentrated in the Southwest region, an area with nearly 50% of the rice and fruit growing area. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the use of drones must comply with both flight safety regulations and the use of agricultural materials.
