Saudi Arabia to host 2034 World Cup

On Instagram, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the hosts of the 2030 and 2034 World Cups. The 2030 World Cup will be the first to be co-hosted by six countries: Morocco, Portugal and Spain. In addition, three commemorative matches will be held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay on the occasion of the tournament's 100th anniversary.

Saudi Arabia is the host of the 2034 World Cup. This is the third time the world's biggest football festival has been held in Asia.

"The bidding process was approved by consensus through the FIFA Council - which has representatives from all confederations - following constructive dialogue and extensive consultation," FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced.

Saudi Arabia was chosen as the host of the 2034 World Cup after no other contenders were in the running. The remaining task for FIFA is to examine and confirm the West Asian country's eligibility to host the World Cup.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, many Asian countries have expressed their intention to bid for the 2034 World Cup as a joint organization. However, no official proposal has been sent to the World Football Federation. On October 31, the Australian Football Association announced that it would not participate in the bidding. Saudi Arabia became the only country to bid for the 2034 World Cup.

"Football unites the world in a way unlike any other sport and the World Cup is the perfect platform to showcase its message of unity and inclusion. It is also the clearest demonstration of how different cultures can come together, learn and understand each other better," Infantino said after announcing the next World Cup hosts.

The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament will move to a new format with 48 participating teams.
